I just acquired a Howa mini-action and have a Riton 3x24x56 to put on it, but am thinking about transferring my Burris 4.5x14x44 to it instead.

But I also have a spare Vortex 1x8x24 LVPO that might work well on it.

Any suggestion is appreciated!

Welcome to the clan, IR, from the great nation of Texas. The scope choice is driven by "what are ya gonna do with it". If you're gonna chase hawgs, the 1x8 is the better choice, if it's elk you're after, then the 4.5 will shine. Just depends on your goals. Or, do like the rest of us have done and get another Grendel and use a different scope on each of them. And then another and.....

Welcome to the Forum IdahoBCR! I primarily use my 24” Cz 527 6.5 Grendel for shooting varmints and target/plinking and I’m using a Vortex Viper HST 4-16x44 on a 25 MOA Dip mount. I live and shoot mostly at lower elevations and this set up lets me shoot targets to a 1000 yards. The 4 power and adjustable objective lets me shoot larger closer targets.


It really boils down to the size/weight and how your going to use your rifle.

Scope suggestions depend on your barrel weight.

If it’s the heavier contour for target, do the 3-24x56 or 4.5-14x44.

If it’s for hunting, do the 4.5-14x44 or Vortex 1-8x24 LPVO.

When I was camping at Farragut State Park, walking to the water in the middle of the night, it was pitch black. I shined my flashlight into the woods and seen nothing but eyes staring back at me. Must have been 15 pairs (deer) in them woods. Must be fun for you, there.
