Pulsar XM38 & daytime shooting

Boys & Girls,

I have a Thermion XM 38……

This scope is shot quiet a bit in bright daylight……..am I hurting the scope doing this?????

Short answer, nope.
Long answer, it's not like a night vision scope that magnifies ambient light. It looks at the difference in temperature or thermal signature of the environment.

What Turtle65 said is accurate. So long as you are trying to sight-in on the sun for a prolonged period, you should be fine. I would not suggest looking at the sun for a short period, either. Normal sighting, shooting, and even hunting is just fine.

With that said, I would not suggest leaving your thermal out in the direct sunlight to sit and roast, or any other similar bit of electronics. For example, if this was the 1960s and you were carrying your thermal scoped rifle in the back untinted with no UV protection truck window for days or weeks at a time, I would suggest you cover the scope and protect it from UV and direct sunlight exposure harm.

Thanks guys, I go to the range the day before the hunt and fire one shot then put the upper up…..

Perhaps I am just looking for an excuse to upgrade to a new scope.

DNS…….killed 2 pigs this past Friday night……no pics or vids……very small combined weight around 75 Lbs

00:45 hrs…..both pigs under a feeder at 65 yards….129 ABLR…….1 st pig shot in ear, 2nd pig running right to left…..1st shot hit him too far back, 2nd shot put him down.
