Velocity and powder conundrum

Kind of wildcat. If you look at BFT’s list of favorite loads you will see several loads.

I saw those loads. Couldn't find published data anywhere, so I sort of figured this is just a community resource kind of load.

OK, finally tracked down a pound of 2520. I think I will get my hands on some 120 grain Hornady CX and test them with 2520 and CFE 223. Hornady says these expand down to 1800FPS, so if I can push them to 2500FPS from my 20" barrel I should have a good, usable load.

I haven’t had any surprises substituting Lever for CFE 223 data in the Grendel. It’s going to be hard to beat Lever for velocity with the 120-123 class bullets. And I always get way better ES/SD spreads with Lever vs CFE 223!

Having said that, I always work up from 5-7.5% below max charge when “substituting”! Starting too low can be just as big a problem, too little and the powder doesn’t burn, it detonates!
