I noticed that, but have yet to play with one. In 3-gun, a lot of guys would polish their springs, tubes, and carriers, then baste them in different greases to get a snotty doorknob feel that makes an AR feel like a totally different gun than a stock blaster.

I'd be interested to see how these really pan out, since they aren't pneumatic or hydraulic.

It's that #*&#!@ spring which kept me away from black rifles for more than 30 years.. And the noise is even worse with ear muffs..

I first saw the JP captured spring in Shotgun News, and was sadened to see on JP's site, they are out of stock until at least mid May.. I want one initially for my Stag 3 gun rig.. If they work as described in Shotgun News though, I'll probably end up with one on each of my AR's..

P.S. new to this forum, but I've been a long time shooter, reloader, and competitive shooter.. At one point, I was reloading for 46 different cartidges and 12 and 20 gauge shot shell.. That was just nuts.. I've paired that way back these days, and want to reduce the count to under a dozen..

First shot an M16 in the service, and hated the spring right off.. Bought an AR15 about 20 years ago, and remembered why I didn't like them..

Recently started getting involved in 3 gun, and well you pretty much have to go with at least one AR..

Variable------- nice Avatar, I believe it is you -for Halloween w/ the kids,,,,,,,,,,,,or your daily work gear ? BTW- many hate-many don't care of the spring noise,-- I never notice it. I'm just happy to have a reliable semi auto rifle.

The spring in my buddy's AR-10 sounds like you're dragging it across a cheese grater. I use Wolff springs in all of my rifles. The JP look interesting, I'll have to try one out when they're more widely available.

For what it's worth, rifle-length buffer tubes usually have a smooth interior finish, where as carbine tubes often have a rougher mil-spec type inner surface. Consequently, rifle tubes tend to be quieter in my experience, especially when combined with a flat wire buffer spring and a touch of grease. This might vary by brand, but it's what I've noticed in some builds.

Think I read somewhere that JP designed the captured spring because it was difficult to get polished buffer tubes that met their preferences. Thus, the finish inside the tube seems to be a factor in how much spring noise is heard / felt by the shooter.

i may have to try one of these in my 5.56 carbine, as it has one hell of a sproing! all my rifle length lowers are fine though.

Heehee, it's not my duty uniform yet, but if they ever start selling that stuff it probably will be soon after. I'll retire within the next ten years if things don't get better. If they get worse maybe I'll just fall victim to a Jedi mind trick...
