7.62x39 case be made from Lapua 6.5 Grendel case?

I know this is backwards from the usual direction. :-)

But to get Lapua SR primer 7.62x39- .308 case can use Lapua 6.5 Grendel to form 7.62x39 case? Would be using virgin Lapua brass.
Didn’t know if the shoulder would form correctly when necking up and putting 7.62x39 case taper
in the 6.5G case.

I know a lot of things can be done, but would there be any issues that might make this impractical or unusually problematic?

Other option is using Lapua .220 Russian brass and necking up in three steps, 22-6mm, 6mm-7mm & 7mm-30cal.

This is for custom rifle, using dummy case for chamber reamer and custom FL sizer from brass fired brass.

I didn’t realize Starline offered 6.5 Grendel basic brass. That’s good to know.

Edit: Grendel basic brass is ST, figured it was but just confirmed.

Being no head stamp would actually be benefit for me since won’t actually be standard 7.6x39.

I’m going be getting an Ugly Annealer so can anneal the body & neck (well what will become neck) and then final anneal of the necks after sizing/forming.

How well do Starline 6.5 Grendel SP pockets hold up as in staying tight after repeat firings/loadings. How do they compare with Lapua for uniformity in wall thickness, weight and concentricity?

FWIW, Hornady makes both small and large P 7.62x39 brass.

Wasn’t sure how the Hornady 7.62x39 SR cases compared to Lapua SR brass, as in forming Lapua 6.5G brass into
7.62x39-.308 cases.

Will the SR versions primer pockets stay tight with as many firings as Lapua case would?
