TedBrewer5, I have used the PRI 68 mags with no problems at all. My elanders work good but are very noisy. So much that I only use them at the range, not to hunt with.

I think the rather hard curve to them looks a bit silly but if they work fine, that won't matter.

I don't know if the curve is completely necessary for feeding, but it keeps it completely clear of the ground when shooting prone off an Atlas bipod at the lowest setting. I also like the way it pinches into a support bag when shooting off of barricades, etc.

To your point, I generally do not run the maxed out for my hunting purposes. I will load them up fully on my next range trip and test fully loaded.

Right, so I can use a .223 30 round magazine with no problems or issues either, so long as I don't load more than 5 rounds in it. That doesn't make it a good or best magazine for the job. It is just functional in a limited capacity.

Maybe you can get 10 rounds to work fine in a 10 round magazine. That would be great, but that may not extrapolate to larger mag capacities.

I really like ASC 25 round mags. I've bought loads of them (Washington state) and haven't had any issues in the five or so years they've been in use. They have a standard AR magazine profile so any typical magazine pouch fits them perfect.

I am not a fan of ASC mags. After posting this video, I have had reports of the problem with other mag brands, but the issue seems less frequent than with ASC. I own about 15 ASC mags, BTW.

I bought 4 Elanders. I had a problem with them binding and hence failing to feed.

All of these are the 24-26 round mags, not 10 or 15 round mags.

I’ve had a few asc springs break on me. They start feeding weird, I open up the plate and the spring falls out in multiple pieces.

I’ve been focused on the 12” Grendel for the past few years, which started in 2017.

So far, I have run 17rd Elander, 25rd CProducts, and 10rd Amend2 polymer mags.

Zero feeding issues or malfunctions of any kind, with the exception of when I shot it unsuppressed with 90gr TNT, which short-stroked the 12” CLGS system 3x. As soon as I attached the suppressor, the 90gr TNT ran like a raped ape across all 4 gas system settings from wide open to fully suppressed choke on the Bootleg Adjustable Gas carrier. 120-123gr ran fine unsuppressed and suppressed.

I have shot cases of 123gr American Gunner, a few hundred 120gr Federal OTM American Eagle, and am into my 2nd case of 123gr ELD-M.

I’m mainly using the 25rd CProducts mags.

With the Amend2 mags, I loaded them up and left them in the rifle case for well over a year before I even shot those.

A caveat with any of my builds is that I go through an extensive build list relative to the bolt, chamber, barrel extension, gas tube, gas block, barrel fit to the upper, and buffer/recoil spring assembly.

For feeding, I de-edge, blend, and polish my feed ramps. I also make sure the ejector is rounded/chamfered and polished so that it doesn’t bind against right side feed presentation from the magazine.

I also make sure the extractor isn’t sharp-edged, to prevent binding during ejection, which is a problem for improperly-made extractors.

I don’t just bash a bunch of parts together and hope for the best. There are decades of lessons-learned that go into how I approach the build process to set me up for success with reliability and accuracy.

I like 17 round elanders but most of the time I use Duramag 10s. That said I modify every new mag I get whether it’s for me
or for a customer. They just work better afterwards and I don’t get any feeding issues after I’m done. Takes about 10 seconds. I haven’t had feeding issues in either of my Grendel’s personally but folks come to me with issues from time to time. Modifying the feed lip, particularly on the right hand side looking from behind the mag generally makes a difference. Plus a little polishing of feed ramps.

I am using 10 round ASC and E-Lander mags and haven't had a problem with either. I am about to buy more E-Lander mags.
