Crimp or NOT

I've reloaded a lot of ammo but never little Stingers "5.56" like these.

What is your opinion on Crimping 55 gr. Projectiles?

AR-15 Semi-Auto.

I use a light taper crimp on all ammo I shoot in semi-auto rifles. I do it because I have had some bullet set-backs during firing. In bolt guns, no crimp.

The old M193 (55gn) ammo was crimped for use in an auto-loader. Same with SS109/M855 - to keep it together on violent loading and military abuse. You can however achieve similar integrity without crimping.

I crimp everything with a Lee Factory Crimp Die. If Lee doesn't make one, I have them make it.~Riuma

I've done the same for the last year. My groups are slightly improved and more consistent.

I don't consider a load finished without a Lee FCD crimp. I also use the Lee Universal Neck "expander" die (it really just imparts a very slight flare on the case mouth) to assist in starting the bullets. Even flat base seat like you forgot to size the case; smooth and straight. A crimp takes out the slight flare. ~Riuma

I crimp big guns .375 & .416………tested both with crimp and no crimp. Either way the bullets did not come forward at all…

The .375 does not have bad recoil at all…….the .416 will get you in touch with your inter self.
