I find it interesting that the Democratic party isn't even trying to push anything with a chance of actually passing, but going all-in on Show level stuff with zero chance. There are 2 priority left topics. Abortion and gun control.

On the abortion topic they actually could have had a shot at passing a more tempered Federal level bill, if it focused on the whole rape, health, medical reasons topic. And quite possibly might have even gotten first trimester. (and no, this isn't to start an abortion debate - FWIW the support on that topic in the gun community is actually right at 50/50, based on a recent AR15.com poll. Gun ownership tends to cross over between traditional Conservatives and Libertarians). Anyway, point being, Manch. stated he might actually vote for something like that, so they had opportunity for at least a >50% vote in the Senate, though maybe not 60%. So what did they do? The house passed some absurd wish-list that already failed a few months ago, with Federally funded late term abortions and I think even post-birth ones. It was show for the votes, and zero chance of actually passing. It was a spectacular failure to their base, because it will be 6 years minimum, before they have a chance at that again. Their only hope now is keep the Senate (which now, they actually might), and replacing Thomas; and then revisiting under Equal Protection clause; which might actually work - but a long shot for them.

This gun-control bill is the same thing. With the weekly mass-shootings going on now (curiously coincident to inept Democratic leadership), they might actually be able to pass a temperated assault weapons bill (maybe). So what do they do? They push a draconian national ban without grandfathering that has no chance in Hell of actually going anywhere.

It's not my team - but all the same, it's hard not to sit back afar and and shake your head at these guys as bunch of disengenous jerks, playing their foolish voting base. Ah well, like I said - not my team. Far be it from me to interrupt an enemy making a mistake.

Great point to be made here - they are raising $$$ on these "votes" - that's the bottom line.
It is, as you say, a big Show. Orchestrated so the MSM can publish pictures and stories etc etc... but for real-life folks it's like believing Tokyo Rose for up to date news.

As to gun control (really, people control, just ask Stalin and Adolf) saw an article (I forget where) that implied, no stated, that the border crisis is orchestrated by Dems with the cartels, and they've branched into allowing cartel members to do the mass shootings... the Richmond mass shooting - which was caught early and prevented - was perp'd by 2 guys one of whom is a cartel (Los Zetas? I forget which one) illegal, and lo and behold! they had weapons, not even citizens!!!

We have let the left define the terms of the debate too long, it is time to correct that. It is not really about "gun control" that's the wrong term and I reject it. It's about "crime control" (which the don't want) and "serf (people) control" which they DO want.
Use crime and chaos to corral the serfs into giving up their rights for some semblance of gov't-controlled "security."
Saddam had that style, so did Stalin and so did Hitler and Maduro. Funny how dictators all seem to like to give folks that kind of "security."

OK, so I went and read what was pushed out yesterday. Apparently I was in error about the no grandfathering. The bill they are sending to the House Floor actuaion does have grandfathering for the possession, transfer, and sale. This is a bit concerning since that has a much higher chance of passing based on compromise.

Interestingly, here is what it bans:
-Semi-auto rifles/shotguns/pistols in a manner comparable to AWB 94 (i.e. threaded barrel, pistol grip, telescoping stock
->10 round mags
-> bumpfire stocks, and other accelration devices. Unclear if that applies to the binary crowd or not, language isn't clear.

Interestingly the language says Import, Sell, Manufacture, or Transfer - but doesn't say "possess", so not clear what happens if you aend up owning a post 2022 semi-auto that someone else made.

This one is worth watching, as this is the route they used to pass the '94 ban - after Paul Purdy shot up a Stockton CA school yard with an AK; and then Going Postal was a monthly thing at the post offices. With the Senate, I would say it's only imporbable this will pass in its current form. Improbable is higher odds than I care for - I was hoping they overshot.

It’s interesting that they are pursuing for this now. There must be a sense of losing the House and Senate in November potentially, so their emphasis on disarmament is noted as to who they work for.

There’s a Constitutional battle going on right now between the WH, Congress, and SCOTUS, which is really how things are supposed to work in terms of checks and balances.

SCOTUS and some of the minority party in Congress are the only ones who are favoring the People > Fed >State mandates of the BoR, specifically 2nd, 9th, and 10th amendments.

If Hillary had become POTUS in 2016, we’d be looking at a totally different SCOTUS. Trump bought us 4 years, which really upset the anti-freedom, pro-tyranny crowd.
