Milestone: 250K lbs of Hogs

Just think of the number of tons of feed those hogs basically stole from wildlife, cattle, and people.

There is a way to actually estimate that. An adult hog eats roughly 3% of its body weight per day. A growing juvenile consumes roughly 5% per day.

Using the adult estimate, 250,000 lbs * 0.03 = 7500 lbs of food per day. With some being juveniles, then I would assuming the number is closer to 8000 lbs per day.

Another disturbing way to look at it is that hogs eat their own body weight every 33 days (adults) or faster.

Not only do they eat browse/graze used by other wildlife, but they consume ground nesting bird eggs, small fauna such as rodents, lizards, and poults.

Even worse, their rooting for grubs and such often destroys the overlaying graze/browse used by livestock, deer, etc. even if the hogs are not consuming it.

So if somebody kills a 200 lb 2 year old boar, for example, if that hog managed to live into old age at 8 years of age and assuming the boar never gained weight, that would be stopping consumption of 6 years of eating 6 lbs of forage per day which comes to 13,140 lbs over that time. I don't think many get a chance to live that long, but that would sort of be a worst case scenario.

Haven’t flown since the last trip I saw you…due to Covid
I have just been fishing around N.Georgia.

David and I are flying to Venice(first flight since Texas trip) this week to fish a couple of days.

Next month we are going to South Georgia to shoot pigs

I haven’t killed a pig since that last trip to Texas.

Look forward to visiting with you again in the future.
