Lapua Scenar L 120's

anyone here ever try them in a AR platform ? I will be single loading from a Bobsled but will be starting at mag length or at least .025 from touch for initial load development. This will be my first experience with Scenars so I have no idea how much jump the prefer.

Yes. Very accurate. Precision Firearms had a bunch of loaded ammo that I ended up shooting loaded with that bullet, plus Lapua gave me some of them at FinnSniper many years ago.

200yd groups were really tight from my lightweight Lilja 18” Grendel if I recall.

I ordered several types of loaded ammo from Alexander Arms when I bought my first Grendel years ago. Mine has the 24 inch Shilen barrel. The only one that shot great was 123 gn Lapua Scenar. The twist is 1/9. If that is still offered by AA it it would be an easy way to order some and try in your combo. All though I am not a great marksman like some on this forum my groups were great with that load. Hope that helps.

The 120gr Scenar-L and 123gr Scenar are different bullets.

Yes, they've worked very well for me in several 6.5 grendel AR's.

The jump has ranged from .030 to.050 and shot very well.

Thanks for the replies. I will be doing the initial range testing tomorrow, less than 5 mph winds all day. Starting with mag length and will adjust seating depth as needed next session.

yep, with TAC. Using a home grown AR with a 22 inch Wilson Combat barrel, Aero receiver and BCG

As LR mentioned, ogival shape is significantly different from 120L and 123gr Scenars. Best you know at what loaded OAL you hit the lands before assuming a start point at mag length. Some throats are tight and others have a longer freebore. My Satern cut rifled barrels were both very short throated and required short COAL to avoid pressure spike until I reamed throat a bit longer. And yes, it’s a very accurate bullet.
