Ukraine

Guys:

Precisely why the 2A was developed.

I bet that if Ukraine forces the Russians out that they will enact some sort of law that will be very close to our 2A.

Also bet the Ukranian government wished they had an armed populace before this invasion by Russia.

Ukrainian citizens lining up to get an assault rifle and ammo so they can fight.

Not lost on me but I bet not one anti gunner gets it.

The 2ndA had been an outdated concept for many people until the last few years when society broke down in certain parts of the country, the pandemic and now with the invasion of Ukraine nobody really believed would happen. I noticed with a raised eyebrow how fast gun laws were forgotten when the survival of the government was at risk. What this should teach people who love freedom is to never give up their right to bear arms and the importance of training with those arms..The other lesson shows what a determined, motivated armed population can do against an overwhelming force.. This is why tyrants hate a well armed, self sufficient population..I can say without hesitation, I would not want to be the one forced to chase Montana hunters out of the woods..

My nephew came over to introduce his new girlfriend. Over the course of the conversation he admitted "Listening to you and Dad talk about gun ownership when I was a kid, I used to think you guys were sort of nuts." He's come around to our way of thinking over the last two years.

The enemy has always been at the gate. When they can mandate what you have to wear on your face the sky is the limit as to what they can/will do. Our only course is to use the system against them and never forget that our very freedom is at stake. From the very moment our children walk into their first class we must be on guard. Complacency is our down fall so always be on guard

I forget who said it but "eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."
I've also been reminded of back when I was a kid, we had "civil defense" groups, volunteers, kind of ad-hoc but they were set up at a local community level. My dad was part of it (CB radio, medical training, etc). Kind of wonder why we don't seem to have any of these now, at least that I can find. Not "national guard" as those can be called up by the Feds (subject somewhat to governors true...), perhaps like the idea floated around here couple of years ago when the 2A was under assault by governor baby-killer-Northam: a sheriff- associated group, deputized as it were. A legitimate local group that can train and develop some local comm's skills and such. We just moved out here couple of years ago and don't know as many like-minded locals as I'd like. They are out here, just don't know them much.
Having some local group cohesion would be a big help in times like that.

Just for the record, I agree with everything posted here.

There were a lot of people who believed the Marxist/Cleptocorporate media presstitute mantra on gun ownership for decades.

Then they saw BLM riots burning their cities and a true sense of self-preservation kicked-in, so their opinions on owning arms changed from a philosophical one, to an existential reality they had never coped with.

Firearms and ammunition purchases surged as a result.

Then 2020 came along.

Then they watched a “peaceful democracy” in Canada unleash its police state on its populace.

Now many of them are seeing the light with what’s happening in Ukraine.

The reality is that none of us are really thinking about Canada or Mexico attacking us with military invasion, but are more suspicious of the Soviet-style ministry of internal security layers that have been built in opposition to some of the fundamental restrictions that the Founders codified in our laws.

I think now is a great time to leave the clean labels that were assigned to us in the dustbin of the past, and realize that everyone has a natural sense of self-preservation.

I don’t think it’s productive to lump in former liberal ideologues into the pot to keep us distracted with constructs that were always designed to divide us, so that the usurpers of power could incrementally move to the place we find ourselves now.

In just a few short years, we have been shown every reason why the Founders solidified the 2A in the Bill of Rights as a recognition of the inalienable right to self-protection, whether it be from Marxist thugs trained to burn down the system, heavy-handed governments enforcing BS lockdowns for huge corporate interests, or invading armies and subversives.

The daily run-of-the-mill criminals go without saying, but strangely are the least harmful and easily-defeated.

No, anti-gunners won't get it. The Ukrainian government won't get it either. They were keeping guns out of the hands of the people for very specific political reasons. They feared the people uprising more so than they feared invasion. They may have helped prevent one while at the same time enabling another.

When this is over, they will repeal the law (most likely) and collect up all the guns anew.

Yet for the vast majority of people around the world, they are the most immediate threat day to day. Either way, the 2A is a very good thing, whether the threat is foreign or domestic.

It is a strange anomaly in this country. People decry the use of masks in order to enable “herd immunity”. Such that, as a collective we defeat whatever it is that has come against us. But it requires a collective to be successful. An armed AND TRAINED community is herd immunity. But without some form of training we are replacing one form of trouble with another.

So, Ukraine is passing out firearms to any one who asks. Great! And it is! But how many of those who now possess these forearms may prove to be a greater danger to themselves and those around them than the red-star’ed forces in front of them.

Many of us across these forum pages have lamented the bygone days when there was a shotgun in every pickup in the high school parking lot ( students and staff ) during ( in my neck of the woods ) dove season, a rifle in other parts of the state. And almost everyone had one or more firearms and we know how to use them. We learned from our fathers, from the Boy Scouts, from the FFA and a variety of other sources. But those days are all gone. The boy scouts are being taught about chastity belts, the FFA is teaching basket weaving and the parents are in mortal fear of the mention of firearms.

And we are primed to be the next Ukraine because too few ( outside of these circles ) understand the importance of what has been lost over the last couple of generations. Somewhere, somehow, we have to get back to a realistic form of herd immunity. Darwin was right. It is “survival of the fittest” but that might also ( or instead ) mean survival of the best prepared. I’ve taught my kids and grandkids firearms, camping skills, survival mindset. And they fully understand the why’s of it all. We all need to evangelize these same concepts.

As I understand it, they have simplified their laws to make firearms purchasing and ownership easier. What that actually entails I have no idea but on the surface it seems easier than California. The reports I have been reading say it has gone from a 2 week process to about 2-4 days.

Because, you know, when your country is actively being invaded by a Super Power, it is important that the gun buying process to help defend the country only take a few days, LOL. It makes you wonder what crisis they are really fighting.

JJ:

I believe those who are getting the weapons are also getting some sort of training too. Somehow, I don't think the Ukranian government or military is thinking about the risks right now.
