What’s wrong ? Chamber, brass, dies

Well it's almost a year so I wouldn't screw around getting on the phone to them. They "should" make it right by you. Lord knows times are NOT tuff in the firearms business so they certainly aren't losing anything by making you happy. Even the "good ones" make lemons!!

I spoke with Carson briefly this morning. He asked for pictures of the brass so I sent him some and some with the calipers on for measurements. Will keep you guys posted

The gas port is not in the center of the barrel. Well it’s not lined up perfectly with the alignment pin that goes in upper reciever. It’s canted, it’s not a big deal but I expected a little more for $767 sent to lilja

If I were them, I'd be blowing up your phone to get that thing back and replaced. And turning that one into a tomato stake, before you start posting photos with their brand logo on it, and that off-center gas-port, next to those scary looking Tomorrow's-Kaboom casings.

It’s just my bad luck. It’s all over me it seems. Not to mention the chatter marks up and down the barrel you can feel with your fingers. All Lilja’s might be like that but it doubt it. Oh and the fluting is so sharp I’m pretty sure I could cut my fingers on it if I tried. Have not heard back from Carson at lilja either. I will guess they are still bad busy

That just doesn't sound like Lilja at all. I know most firearms manufacturers and their parts suppliers were buried with orders during the height of the CV19 marathon and it's possible this barrel was a 12th hour Friday night special. It's just not like anything I've seen from them.

I just hope they decide to let me send it in and for them to look about replacing it. It does shoot great but if the chamber is out of spec it’s dangerous. I have never had a piece of brass come apart so far. I’m a left handed shooter makes me a little more nervous

If the reamer is not exactly square with the bore then it's going to ream a cone. The Grendel profile is already a mild cone (see SAAMI blueprint), no doubt to aid extraction. But if the reamer goes in even slightly offset then the cone at the base is going to be more severe. That's what it seems like to me - too wide at the base, but still accurate. Regardless of accuracy, case life and safety are an issue - plus if the chamber was square to the bore it might even be more accurate.

Gas port drilled out of alignment and noticeable is extraordinary for that price.

I'd be using it as a hemroid depth gauge on who ever let it out of the factory in this condition!!!

Removed the barrel this afternoon. At the opening of my chamber I’m getting .447 repeatedly. A new unfired brass dropped in the chamber I can take my finger and move the case around (it wiggles). I can look through the chamber with a flash light and to me the chamber does not look like it’s in the center of the bore or vise versa. I’m sure they have a way of seeing what I’m seeing ??

Update today from lilja email . Carson claims the first thing he done was check the chamber dimension. He said sammi specs for a 6.5 grendel has a base diameter of .4437. He said my fired brass measured .4445. He said while its slightly over sammi specs he would not call it oversized. As far as the machine marks goes He said they send out all barrels like that with the chatter marks in the barrel he called them contour marks and his dad and him decided the barrels look better that way. He said he could polish them out if I wanted before he sent the barrel back. I replied since neither of my other 2 grendel barrels caused brass to look like that and he said it was slightly out of spec that I loved how it shot but did not want that barrel back for safety reasons, and I would not feel comfortable selling the barrel and the buyer have the same issues or worse have a case separate. Will let horde know what happens next. What say you ?

Only hearing your interpretation of course. But that doesn't sound like the best initial conversation. There must be a misunderstanding on the stated "it looks better" comment regarding an internal dimension no one would ever look at. Either that, or a fairly amateur blow off attempt to avoid replacing it?

Regarding the offer to polish, that will just increase the size even more.

I would have thought the safety issue with the spent brass would be reason enough to swap, no questions asked - how it shoots is irrelevant.

Those marks up and down the barrel is not chamber related. It’s the finish on the barrel while contouring it. He said him and his dad said they finish all ar15 barrels like that
