I don’t recall! I purchased 2 years ago after reading good reviews for about 200 bucks . It claims to have 5r rifling , the exterior and fluting was nicely done so was the threading on the muzzle. I could not see the deficiencies in the crown until I put my jeweler's head set on. The bore look bright and sharp. It wasn’t until I lapped the upper reciever and looked into setting up my headspace more precisely did I notice the damage to the case and bullet run out it was causing. If it doesn’t shoot after this the barrel is officially declared junk.

I found the receipt for the barrel. Purchased from classic firearms about 21/2 years ago for 95.00 1 in 8 twist ss straight flutes , 5 r .

I did all the so called accuracy enhancements. The barrel was re crowned. It was a lousy crown. When my buddy reported the looser than normal fit of The range rod I decide to slug the barrel. The bore was terrible. Throat was very tight for about 4”. Then the slug broke free hit another tight spot then slide out with no resistance.

Pure junk!!!!! The so-called reviews by verified customer either did know rifle or were on the payroll.

If I had slugged it first I would not had it recrowned.

The only option at this point is to try to lap the bore without destroying the throat. I made a bore guide by running a 6.5 cm into my Grendel dies then necking sizing the case down as close to the rod as I could.


I used brownells hard felt slugs turned tight as I could to work the bore . I left the throat mostly alone. Pass the throat the barrel feels much better, the lead buckshot slugs look better. The tight spot at the throat will be handled by fire lapping With 320 gr and long bearing surface bullets .


I have nothing to lose at this point. If I can get close to a moa at 100 instead of 7” vertical spreads with hornady factory it will serve through next year, or I can in good Conscience sell it and move on!


I hope to shoot it at the end of next week.

Classic Firearms reportedly sold rebranded BCA (Bear Creek Arsenal) barrels. There are numerous threads on various firearms forums regarding BCA 6.5 Grendel and other caliber barrels. To be polite BCA lacks consistent QC and has sold a lot of poor quality barrels.

I thought you said the range rod fit looser than normal?

See if Shaw is still making Grendel barrels. Or Lothar Walther. Shaws are hunting grade but at least they are dependable and are low in cost. Lothar Walthers are much better than Shaws but no Krieger by any means and the LW barrels used to be a very good value.

I have a LW barrel on a .223 Ar platform that I built about 10 years ago. after 1,000's and 1,000's of round out west shooting P. Dogs it still shoots 3/4 MOA 5 shot groups all day long. I just can not shoot it out!

May want to take a look at this barrel. It's on sale right now, won't break the bank.

The 16" was on sale when I got mine about 2 weeks ago. Used it to rebuild a pistol I blew up I'm getting very good results from it.

This is their 18" version.
