It would be nice if all gun owners made their voices heard. As an FYI, copy/paste comments are not accepted, and neither are comments with foul language.

Process-wise they have to read and collate and prepare replies to all of them. All of that has to be done before they can publish a final rule, b/c responses/explanations have to go into the federal register too.
So it might take a while, if there were thousands of comments. Sheer volume can be a problem for them.
Plus IMO the withdrawal of Chipman's name will have a negative effect on getting any rule out, they might not be so gung-ho as that cooled some admin jets... but we'll see.

In layman's terms, they're in the bogged-down, repetitive, paperwork-generating part of the bureaucratic process that also makes my silencer tax stamp take forever. The ATF is literally, given the number of comments, in the midst of a legislatively mandated period that will amount to months of office work handling all the comments, followed by analysis of those comments that bring up points the bureaucracy deems need addressing, and all the while there's political jockeying going on influencing the players. At the end of that the end of that, then decisions will be made about how to progress -- enact the rule, modify the rule, enact an alternative, or drop it. But that's a ways off, likely.

All the obnoxious red tape that makes government run slow -- that's what's happening.

I believe there were a few hundred thousand of them. This is when bogging down a bureaucracy is a good thing.

I will never forgive them for not repealing the NFA in 2017...or 2018...or 2019.
