I do not have one as yet, & something tells me that's going to get harder before it gets easier, at least with any dream of staying in a budget....

The closest I can come to experience is working with my wife's 6.5 x 54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer, which did "long-for-caliber" before it was a thing, & a brief fling with a $20 Carcano carbine. That probably tells you that I'm not obsessed with driving tacks (although silhouette matches have always intrigued me), but 1-shot DRT's are a point of pride. Presently I generally carry a T-C Contender Super 14 in 30-30 or 7-30 Waters, or my scoped .41 Mag Blackhawk for deer. Yeah, I like the weird stuff....

I do have a couple .223's - a stainless Mini 14 Ranch (anniversary present), & another 14" Contender barrel (for woodchucks). All our guns have to have some at least marginally justified purpose.... ;^)

Where we are, right now, is kind of like standing in the eye of a hurricane. It is calm at the moment, but as we look all around there is chaos and damage. Because the sky and the hurricane wall around us are the same color, it is difficult to see how far away the return of the storm is. We got here thru a gradual build up of a violant and wrathful storm and then sudenly peace seemed to break out. But, at some point, we will cross back thru the wall and into the storm and it will hit with extreme vengeance. Anyone else who has been thru a REAL hurricane will understand. Be prepared.
I had one of those 41 mag Blackhawks for many years. Absolutely loved it but had a chance to trade it. Don't regret the trade but I really miss that revolver.

Yep, at some point the back wall of that storm is going to hit us - I just hope we can ride it out.

The .41 is big medicine for deer with the old Speer swedged-jacket hollow points. My other Blackhawk is a 4-5/8" .45 convertible - my "barbeque" gun, if I may borrow the phrase from you Texans...
