14.5 pin and weld - an experiences with it?

I'll take one. I'm on a several month wait-list for a 16" that I was going to cut down and P&W. That will be a PITA; as I don't really have machine tools for all that. I'd much rather a dedicated 14.x from you. If it comes pre-welded with a brake, even better - but not a hard requirement.

Requests and suggestions (if you are taking them)

1) Please keep the profile light. This is a stiffer/shorter barrel selected by those focusing on handyness as top priority. (forgive if that comes across as preachy)

2) If you don't have a pre-installed muzzle device, then please at least cut a channel running along the bottom of the threads, for the pin to drop into (drilling on malonite is no fun!)

3) If you do integrate a brake (not a requirement, but would be nice) - small and light is my request again. Most brakes are oversized. My intent was to run a BCM Gunfighter MOd 0 version; which I like as the small dimensions of an A2; looks like an A2, but the internal baffle/cone at the end acts as a mild brake. It notably reduces recoil pretty well, and does so without the unpleasant blast most brakes have. I have one on a 16" 5.56 now, and it's the only design I'll buy again as a general purpose muzzle device; if given the choice. They make a 7.62 version as well, but if you can home-make one on the same principle with a 6.5mm hole as part of a 6.5 Grendel 14.7 P&W; I would be all over that.

4) Bonus points if you can figure out how to do that at a smaller diameter than the barrel nut and gas-block. (which people do - no big deal there).

5) I get first dibs and will provide test data

What diameter bit would be used to cut this "channel" on the underside of the muzzle threads and what would be the length of the channel?

Bravo Company, for example, "dimples" their 14.5 stripped barrels. What should the bit diameter and dimple location be for a similar method on 65G?

Thanks for the reply. There is no industry standard, but I have seen muzzle devices commonly come with the hole pre-drilled, just for this. Here's the big Gamma 6.5 one on my Creedmoor. I measure the hole with calipers to be 0.092"


As you can imagine, where that hole specifically lines up along the bottom will vary.

Thank you. To be honest; the effort and likely expense have been a hurdle for me to pursue 3rd party service of the nature; though good to know it's an option and appreciate the note. As I'm sure you experience with some: the thought of paying as much for the muzzle device and attachement, as for the entire barrel, can give one pause.

Perhaps if you could pair with BFT to have it be a listed option on his purchase site; and with that a better economy-of-scale negotiated price and ease of one-stop ordering?

I'd find out what size VG6 Precision pre-drills their brakes to and make that the SixFiveArms standard. Dimpling the bottom is smart too.

I would think a short channel may be universally better than a single divot as one may encounter a slightly different placement with a different type of muzzle device. While your at it, place a small notch like Odin does on the Top Dead Center of the barrel for gas hole alignment might be a nice touch as well.
