Muzzle brake advice!

Anytime you change to a different style/type/weight of muzzle device the harmonics will be different. To what extent it has an effect on your accuracy and POI can only be determined by your personal testing.

I know it. I was/am grabbing for straws saying no Brandon. Don’t take the WCI brake off the gun. In think I have this misconception that’s it’s the thing that helps make my gun accurate and honestly I’ve never had another brake. So how would I know !!! The only thing too. I don’t know my thread and size. I’m presumed it was 5/8-24. Thai barrel was put on by Bill A long ago when I was having a hissy fit that another outfit sold me this upper with who knows what barrel. All I know is the barrel came from AA. Around 2012 ish. I found the WCI BRAKE on AA website for sale still says the thing is 3/4 with a disclaimer about barrel year. I’m cornfused now. Hunting in Kansas this week. I’ll pop this brake off an mic the threaded end I suppose.

I grabbed a VG6 for my 308 and it sucked....bad... Put it on my Grendel and it was like it transformed. Not the best Ive ever used but about what you should expect.

To update, while I like the VG6 a lot, they do tend to have a notable blast. I picked up a BCM 5.56 BattleComp for another build, and have to say I've fallen in love. Those aren't the cheapest, but at standard A2 flash-hider size (and appearance), they pass my criteria of compactness. And they provide a real nice balance of recoil control and noise/blast control. They aren't uncomfortable at all to shoot. I won't say they are the best breaks of all time, what they are is the best general-purpose compromise of blast to break that I've found yet. Very pleasant to shoot. For a gamer gun, go with VG6. For a general-purpose gun, BCM BattleComp.

You must look into a Harrells radial brake they cover all your muzzle brake criteria. They are 35.00 shipped make sure when you call to order they bore it for you to 284 for 264 bore. i have several the one on my 280 ackley imp makes it shoot like a 7mm08 50% reduction. on my 20 inch grendle almost no recoil straight back push>

I have a Harrells tuner brake on my Howa mini and love it , you can tune each load to shoot bug holes and go back and forth with ease.

FWIW, AA used a 9/16 thread pitch on most of their Grendel barrels, as that's what my AA barrel uses (with a WCI brake as well). I think mine was from 2017-18. Your options will be limited if you have the 9/16 threads, but the WCI brake is a good choice and I'm not sure you'll get much improvement from a different muzzle device.

FWIW, I have used the VG6 Gamma & Epsilon, WCI Comp, YHM Phantom Comp, & a KAK Comp on a few different 6.5 and 5.56 barrels and they're all very good at reducing recoil/muzzle rise (with the VG6 being most effective with most blast). If you don't mind the length of the WCI, I don't see a reason to switch, as it's good for recoil control without the excessive blast of the side-ported brakes. If you want to see how it affects your accuracy, just take it off and shoot with a bare muzzle for comparison.

The reason I might change is to put my new can on the grr. And I was thinking of putting a key mount compatible brake on. Or I don’t try to silence the Grendel.

I was told it was threaded at 3/4 x 28, but there was also an “I believe” in the response. If anyone has different info, I would appreciate it. If I wanted a brake for this thread, I see Harrels radial brake is an option. Are there others?

If you want to know the thread pitch on your barrel, unscrew the muzzle device & take it to your local hardware store's fastener section, and find which screw size will thread into it. It's probably 3/4 x 28 if you have a heavy barrel, 9/16 x 32 if it's a slim profile barrel.

I'm actually ordering a Harrell's tactical brake myself, because I want one that matches the diameter of my Wilson Combat SR Recon barrel, and the price is right. The radial design is really similar to the WCI, so it could be a good change if you want something shorter, but performance would likely be diminished because it has fewer ports compared to the WCI.

I second this VG65. It was my first brake and I could not believe how it settled the gun down. Previously my gun would jump up and right on every shot. I tuned this in and it literally has no jump.

Maybe I missed this, but why don't you measure your muzzle threads yourself? If you have a caliper, or a few nuts of the few suspected thread sizes, you'll get a definitive answer.

I just bought an apollo max 6.5 brake. Hopefully I can try it out in the next few days. If anything, it looks pretty wild.

I bought 2 V6 Gamma 6.5 brakes when they were around $45 ea.They work great for me. I have them on a 22 inch criterion Hbar barreled Ar15 and an RAP bolt.They work very well for me for both applications.

So recently I needed to add $8 to an order to get free shipping and I bought a .30 cal kak compensator, it was $9. None of my guns minus the grendel kick, so I put it on my 6.5. Low and behold this compensator works really well and doesn’t look half bad. Loud as all get out though.
