My budget 6.5 Grendel...

I'm starting with a budget build to if I like the 6.5...
BCA side charging upper 18" barrel mid length gas...
Mil-spec lower with a CMC 3.5 lbs trigger carbine buffer...
Primary Arms 4-14x44 scope...

I like it. How do you like the side-charging upper? Every time I put one together I consider a side-charger, but I seem to be stuck on tradition...

yeah I'm curious about the upper as well, I bought one of these upper/BCG combos on sale for something ridiculously low cant remember what now but maybe $100? i have mine mated to a BA .224 valk im thinking about dismantling and selling, never even shot it..

to the point though it looks great, budget builds have the most potential for favorite gun status when the are cheap and keep em tight.

I have a side charge billet upper made by Precision Firearms. It's a tight fit for AR barrels. Had to thermal fit my Wilson Combat Grendel barrel into it. I also have a BCA side charge upper that is in my junk box presently. Every barrel I've tried to install in it was a loose fit. It would need bedding or shimming if I were to build a rifle with it.

My side charging build would not group so I shipped the upper back to BCA and ordered a bolt action 6.5 upper from Uintah...The price of this upper includes tax, free shipping and a 3.5# Velocity trigger...
Can't wait to get it to the range...

Please let us know what you think. The Uintah uppers have always intrigued me. Reports are they shoot well.

According to Uintah's specs; their 6.5mm & .30 cal barrels do have 5R rifling.

It’s a nice looking rig.The thing about starting out with a budget build, is if you don’t like things about it, you can always upgrade as you go along. It can end up costing you more in the long run. But you’re doing it a little bit at a time and you’re having fun every step of the way. If you can get a hold of 6.5 Grendel ammo, tell us how it shoots.
