Folks,
I took out my Upper built with a Monster 16 inch, 1:7.5 barrel in 6.5 Grendel to the range yesterday. Did a easy break in of it, shoot, clean, and so on. And in a word it did fantastic. I was at the range from about 11am to close around 5:45. Total rounds down the tube about 350. Was careful not to let it overheat, and the quality for dollar equation on this barrel is out of this world.
The ammo used was the 123gr SST, 2.245 COAL, 29.5gr of BLC-2, x1 Hornady brass, and a #41 primer. After sighting in at 100 yards, my come ups were 2moa for 200, 5.5 moa for 300, 9 moa for 400, 13.5 moa for 500. Accuracy was superb, some groups were .75. My chrono died along time ago, so approximate velocity at muzzle was 2400-2450.
The other load was the 129gr Nosler ABLR, 26.5 gr TAC, x 1 Hornady, #41 primer, COAL was 2.26. Accuracy was excellent. Some groups were 1.2-1.45 inches. Zero was set by adjusting the zero of the SST down by 1 moa, 200 2.5 moa, 300 was 6 moa from zero, 400 was 11 moa up from zero, and 500 was 16 moa up from zero. Guestemated velocity based on these come-ups, is between 2280-2350. Any other shooters that have experience with the ABLR, and TAC or CFE223 I would like to hear from you. Especially if you have used a 16 inch barrel.
The barrel cleaned up nicely, there was NO copper fouling! I ran some Sweets 7.62, and zippo! Overall very pleased, extremely high quality barrel for the $139! Kudos to John! A2

I have run the 129 ablr through my 16 inch monster barrel and got .75 to .61 for 5 shot groups but I'm useing h4895 and cci450 primer.
For the price BFT's barrels are the top shelf option of rack grade barrels.

Averages 2418 from the 16 inch monster barrel with the 7.5 twist rifleing, speeds caught with my magneto speed spotter, doped out too 600 yards correctly with a 100 yard zero.
Lil crunch on the powder but no pressure signs indicating its overpressure.

Elander wont fit that but my cpd 10 round mags just squeeze it in, my old asc mags would hold 2.295 no problem as well.
I would measure your chamber to see what it will allow as for as coal length but every chamber I have measured for that bullet has been in the 2.350 area for contact to lands.

Can't remember what cpd stands for. Just google cpd 6.5 grendel mags it should bring up a bunch of results, last I bought some I got them from joebobsoutfitters online.

The magazine is manufactured by C Products Defense-Duramag based in Florida. Aim Surplus has good prices on ten and twenty round CPD-D 6.5 Grendel magazines.

Gents,
Just built my second upper with the Monster barrel. This one is my coyote upper, that will be dedicated to shooting Barnes 120gr TTSX. I just replaced my Faxon barreled upper. Scabbed the hand guard, and the barrel will collect dust. All components are new except the Aero Precision hand guard. Midway USA Stoner upper, forward assist, Battle Arms charging handle, K&M NiB bolt carrier, AR Stoner gas tube and pin. It has atop it a 3x9x40 Leupold Freedom scope on it. YHM Mount and Leupold rings.
I like BFTs barrel, because of the higher twist rate, heavier bullets, higher velocities. The contour being thick at the chamber end, it will not sag in the middle, the Faxon gunner profile is very thin at the chamber end. I am not knocking Faxon, but the Monster has a set of characteristics that make for an excellent barrel at an outstanding price. Very rare combo these days. A2

Nice to see another 1:7.5 16" option.
Since you asked about ABLR loadings, my current 129gr ABLR load for my 16" AA upper is 30gr of CFE223 at 1.648 BTO. I don't know the exact COAL but it fits in an E-lander Grendel mag. CCI 450 primers in Hornady brass. Leaving the barrel at 2365 fps, SD in the mid teens. The best I could get out of this combo is about 1" to 1.25" groups at 100 yards, which is perfectly fine for me since I consider this a hunting load.
After I burn through these though I'd like to try using AR Comp instead, the CFE burns dirtier than I like in the rifle. I also expect the velocity to drop a bit if fired in colder weather, since CFE223 is a bit temp sensitive.

You will lose alot of speed going to ar-comp with that bullet. I tryed it and it just couldn't get it going, h4895 works great with the 129 ablr if you have are can find some.
I had to use the cpd mags to get enough load length to get them sub-moa. With my six8 pmag setup my 2.295 coal length is easy because it allows just over 2.300 for load length. And a max coal on 5 rounds of 2.335 if I run them in my windowed six8 pmag.

Do you find the Starline to have similar volume to Hornady brass, or more/less?

I just received my 16 barrel today , looks great . Like a moron I thought I had a gas tube ( I do 2 rifle length ,and 2 carbine ) . So now I guess I wait until midweek !
