ASC 15rd mags

Has anyone used the ASC 15rd magazines? I can’t find much info on them? Are they reliable?

I have four and three 26 rounders not one problem with either. I much prefer the 15 round ASCs to my 17 round E-lander magazines.

I have three of the prior C Products manufactured 15 round mags. The CP version prior to the take over by ASC only hold fourteen rounds. C Products counted the chambered cartridge in their mag capacity. My fifteen round mags function but I rarely load more than ten rounds. Alexander Arms wanted a curved body 15 round mag similar to the 17 round E-Lander to enhance reliability. CP/ASC never offered the the curved body mag so AA never carried the fifteen round mags. AA used to inspect the CP/ASC mags before sale and there were fewer quality control problems with AA branded CP/ASC mags.

From feed back on gun forums it appears the spotty quality control is the root problem for the CP/ASC fifteen round magazine. It is luck of the draw whether you get a good quality mag or a lemon. Unfortunately there have been to many lemon 6.5 Grendel magazines hit the market which has plagued the 6.5 Grendel reputation. The quality control problems have been encountered with all brands of 6.5 Grendel magazines.

It’s really hard to gauge the percentage of faulty mags that reach the consumer but with the internet you tend to read about anyone who has encountered mag problems. Some AR-15 functioning issues are related to excessive or inadequate gas and the malfunction is blamed on the magazine.

If you decide to buy the ASC or rebranded AR Stoner 15 round 6.5 Grendel mag I suggest you purchase from a vendor who has good customer service in the event you get a faulty magazine.

Here is a picture of an aluminum curved body 20 round 5.56/223 mag on the left next to a 17 round E-Lander 6.5 Grendel magazine . Bill Alexander wanted this type of mag body for the fifteen round capacity 6.5 Grendel.





Here is a picture of a 17 round E-Lander mag on the left, a 15 round C Products mag in the center and a 20 round CPD/Duramag on the right.




There isn’t a real significant difference in size between the ASC 15 round, E-L 17 round and 20 round CPD/D magazine but the E-L mag is noticeably heavier. The CP/ASC and CPD/D mags are stainless steel and the E-Lander use a heavier gauge carbon steel mag body.

I noticed ASC sells rebuild kits for their 10 and 25 round mags. At 3/$14 I wonder if they are worth it.

The 4 ASC 15 round grendel mags I have will not feed 123 grain 6.5 Grendel Lapua Scenar loads due to the lip being to high. Luckily for me, they feed 243 LBC just fine.

My heavier gauge steel E-Lander 6.5 Grendel mags have been dropped numerous times and have not had the feed lips deformed or the bodies dented. The feed lips on the thinner CP and ASC mags being thinner gauge steel are more easily bent or dented. I’ve tweaked the feed lips on one ASC 24 round mag to get it to function reliably. Many people will lower the front edge of 6.5 Grendel mags so cartridges don’t snag on the lip. You can accomplish the same thing by adjusting the feed lips where the nose of the cartridge is presented at a higher angle and misses the top edge at the front of the magazine.

My E-Lander mags stack the cartridges pretty level considering the taper of the 6.5 Grendel brass case but my E-Lander mags haven’t needed the feed lips adjusted.

It helps if your willing to tinker with your 6.5 Grendel AR-15 and mags to get reliable functioning. Unfortunately not every home built 6.5 Grendel AR-15 runs 100% after assembly.

I went ahead and ordered some of the ASC 15rd mags. Hopefully they are reliable.

I have about a dozen of them, and have had no issues with them at all.
I have 5 that seem to stay loaded most of the time and when I cycle those through they have been flawless.

I use the ASC in all configurations and have been very happy with them. If anything, the C Products have been spotty in performance.

I got my ASC 15 rounders in the mail. They cycle by hand just fine. I’ll be going to the range to test them out this week. It looks like I’ll have to buy some more.

I have about 8 of them. 4 black and 4 tan. They are the only mags I use now in my 6.5 Grendels. Never any problems.

Every 6.5 mag I've tried has worked without issue. I have the 15 and 25 round ASC mags and two sizes of elanders. I prefer the ASC mags. I just bought 5 of the 25 round ASC mags on sale.
