Muzzle Device recommendations

So the last part of my build is a muzzle device, looking for something cheap and simple. The rifle is primarily built for target and maybe hunting so looking for things that will work for those purposes. The barrel length is 18 inches with 5/8x24 threads. I've been looking at the cnc warrior type 74 brake in 5/8 but it doesn't say if its for .30cal

VG6 Gamma, A2 type, or just a thread protector.

I use 5/8”x24 30 caliber A-2 Flash Hiders on all my 6.5 Grendel AR-15’s except one 16” which has a Phantom 9/16x24 thread pitch.

VG6 gamma in 6.5 caliber. After trying many different ones, this one is the best for the best price point. Armorally usually has them for the best online price I've seen.

one more thing, don't use crush washers, use the accuwashers or a 5/8-24 jam nut, along with a little blue loktite. Crush washers cause a non-uniform torque stress that can mess up your accuracy.

20" How Minie LW Barrel Grendel has no threads. :-)

I have one other 18" AR Grendel that is being converted to 300 Blackout but it currently has another VG6 Gamma 6.5.

I will 2nd a simple and cheap thread protector, flash hiders are loud and unnecessary and honestly the 6.5grr has minimal recoil. Ive used a few different kinds over the years and just prefer a simple traditional look to my barrels. $20 delivered is cheap enough to give one a try. Only rifle I have a break on is my 450 bushy and it does mitigate recoil nicely.

The muzzle devices that I've had experience with include the YHM Phantom Comp, VG6 Gamma/Epsilon, WCI Comp and the KAK comp above. The YHM and the Phantom were most effective, but I get constant complaints from my neighbors at the range (usually my shooting buddies). The WCI and the KAK are much less obnoxious to others, but not quite as effective at taming muzzle climb. If I could legally own a suppressor in CA, that's the route I'd go.

You probably have gotten your device by this time but I saw no reply from you. I would suggest a linear muzzle device. The brake type devices project too much muzzle blast back toward you or to the side to deafen people beside you or you while hunting when you don't have time to put on hearing protection. Midway has a cheep linear muzzle device, I have two. I also have two others on ARs of another make that cost more but both do the same. The linear device projects the muzzle blast down range away from you and may reduce recoil some but the AR 6.5 Grendel don't have much recoil anyway. Last deer season I shot a deer with my 18" Grendel with the linear device with out any hearing protection because the deer popped out of nowhere and I did not have time to put in my ear plugs. The concussion to my ears was NOWHERE close to what the normal brake or flash hider produces.

Question on your 12" barrel's muzzle. Did you stick with the 5/8-24 thread? What does the barrel OD measure at the shoulder?

Mine measures 0.690" at the shoulder which is considered too little for a suppressor mount with 5/8 threads. There was also no thread relief on the muzzle threads and with the edge break at the OD there was literally no shoulder for the suppressor mount to seat up against.

I ended up re-threading to 9/16-24 to get enough shoulder.

Definitely the gamma, that’s what I’ve got on lots of mine.

My favorite is the Jet Blast from Patriot Valley Arms. It's great for reducing recoil, it is self timing and it doesn't give the usual concussion. Shooters on either side do get a large blast but no concussion.
