Bullet didn't quite exit, sticking out of skin...

I have seen this once before, but it was on a hog somebody else shot. I thought it was pretty neat when I found it. I was taking photos when I saw the shine of the base of the bullet sticking out of the hide on the 2nd hog I shot. My first thought was that the famed bullet stopping hard shield had finally performed the oft lauded miracle, but then it clicked that sows don't have shields or don't have shields of any consequence. I extracted the bullet and it turned out to be only the jacket. Some maybe the jacket stuck and the lead continued onward? That would be a sort of double miracle. Closer examination of the fragments revealed that they are torqued in multiple directions with some tears in different directions, plus the main body is laterally compressed slightly. And there is a hole all the way through the hog to the other side. It would appear that the bullet came through, broke apart, the core lead separated from the cup jacket, during which time tumbling occurred that caused the lateral compression and the heavy end of the jacket became the leading edge as the bullet hit the opposite side hide and partially penetrated. That is my best guess to explain what happened, anyway. This just isn't something you see every day, a bullet sticking out of the hide of your kill.

Good show. If I had that many hogs running around here, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Thanks for the video. Hows the wrist coming along? Doesn't seem to be slowing you down much, or hindering your shooting. Keep on killin'em. Gary

The wrist keeps me from doing a lot of things. I like that I don't have to do some chores! Can't lift, pull, or drag hogs with it, which is a significant issue for what I do. Finally getting into the doctor tomorrow. Thanks for asking.
