Dura coating?

What is dura coating?
Everyone is doing it on their rifles?
Help me out!

I have duracoated a couple of rifles. I've not done an AR. Its a spraypaint that protects much better than blueing. There are many colors so if you want to personalise a gun its lots of fun. No need for heating. Just take the gun apart, degrease and clean complely and spray. It probably helps if you have more imagination to select colers then I have.

Duracoat is a dual-component finish product with a hardener and the color. They are mixed, then sprayed onto the degreased surface of your firearm or other part that you want to coat.

Cerakote is also a two-part system with a hardener, and a ceramic color solution that are mixed and sprayed, then baked onto the surface.

KG Gunkote is another product that is just the color, which is baked on after spraying.

If done professionally, they can add value and longevity to your firearm.

Maybe I did not say enough nice things about duracoat. It protects your metal parts from moisture /rust very well. I like it. Most of us dont clean/protect the our rifles well enough on the outside (sure my bore is spotless-but what about those dings I got last hunting season?) and over time it add ups. There is also a clear coat of duracoat that is suposed to go over the wood or any part that you are all ready happy with. The clear coat is suposed to be soft and rubber-like so it feels like a Hogue overmolded stock. Profesional jobs look better than my work-but my work dont look bad; and duracoating is like gunsmithing for us mechinically impared people.
