OK, so 2 years ago this was going to be a pistol. I decided I didn't want a pistol, sold the barrel (to Croak) and am on Rebby's Lilja GB #2 for a 16".
Since I have the NiB lower parts kit, I am 2 toning it in black and silver/NiB.
I found a VLTO EMOD at Midway, it was listed as "foliage green". From what people were describing Magpul's Foliage as, I thought it would more greyish.
Of course if I had bothered to look on VLTORs site I would have seen its basically OD. So I tool it apart and spraypainted the base black and some other parts nickel, but I wasn't going to spray the rubber shoulder pad so you can see the original green.
The lower is assembled.
So the parts list is:

the neat thing about paint is, if down the road you decide you like another color scheme, it's just as easy to change it as it was to do the original.

OK, so here are some updated pics. The Noveske upper is on. Its not flat/matte black like the lower and rail. Oh well.
The Noveske is the tightest upper I have, when I close it. I have never had to use so much force to close or open it.
I didn't put on the dust cover yet, since I won't get the barrel for a couple months.
And maybe there will be another Monster dustcover run.
I also slapped on the rail so you can see it assembled
I am moving the Geissele over to, err, build 3. So the trigger that was in the other lower (JPE) is now in this one.
So, of course, I will need to dremel the other lower a little to fit the Geissele in...
Although I dont care about the way a rifle looks, I gotta admit, thats a pretty nice looking build you got going on.All my AR parts are standard black.Because looks wont help me in a gun fight.All my money goes into the barrel and trigger.
The Lilja arrived last week. It was part of the Six Sigma GB. With bolt and shipping it was 480.
So I knew I had to thermal fit and figured I wanted to see if freezing was enough.
It wasn't.
A day later I tried again with the heat gun, but didn't go nuclear on its ass and again no joy.
I swear the BCM upper didn't need as much heating as this Noveske appears to.
OK, I finally got the Lilja on yesterday. Obviously some time has passed. It was in the freezer since then, I took it upstairs in a container of ice.
I then used the heat gun, on highest setting for 3+ minutes.
That did the trick I then slid on the gas tube after putting the barrel nut on.
Beautiful.

So this is what happens when you put a carbine length tube on a barrel with a mid length gas system.
The tube and the handguard were bought with a 12.5 monster pistol in mind.
I have ordered a midlength tube and a JPE adjustable gas block from Wing Tactical.
I don't want to disassemble it after all the effort to put that roll pin in.
So here is potentially what it looks with the handguard.

So that puts me with a little (1/4 ") gap between the front of the handguard and the back of the AGB
Is this an issue, I can't think its gonna matter.

I can't delete something previously attached, I can't get proper image size even if I use a URL from Google pics instead of uploading, its frustrating.
OK, the gas tube and JPE AGB are together.
However, I also liked the looks (maybe not the weight) of the Strike Gridlok, and I wanted something long enough to cover the GB.
The barrel nut has 5 slots for the tube. Its off by a 1/4 inch and I am in no mood to use the shims they provided.
I opened a ticket with them. This barrel nut does not match the one shown in their install video and otherwise seen.

After opening a ticket with Strike about getting the older style barrel nut, the response yesterday was that they changed it because of patent issues and if I wasn't going to reinstall the barrel with shims the only option is some metalwork.
So it was Dremel and Sharpie time today. Revel in the craftsmanship.
