Hi Guys,
This is going to be my first grendel upper build and need some advice. First, I am not a competition shooter, my expectation of the build is accurate maybe up to 400-500 yards range toy and maybe occasional hunting. I'm split between buying Lija, Precision Firearms or some mid level barrels and bolts or go with Monster Barrel, Criterion, Faxon or Odin works and then just used the remaining funds to get a good trigger.

The larue trigger is all you would need. Precision firearms sells the short barrels for cheap enough that there's no reason to buy a faxon or Odin imo.

I guess "cheap" depends on your perspective there, Bigs. Though, if you're looking for a good option OP - that would be one for sure. Spend most of your budget here and run with it. Expand your budget to make it fit if necessary, this is the absolute heart of your build. Skimping here is a long term disappointment. The Group buys are great deals for blasters and some better than rack grade barrels at rack grade price. They're not precision territory though, aside from the Lilja GB.
Agree with Bigs above, the LaRue MBT is pretty much the epitome of high-speed-low-cost goodness in the trigger dept. 93 shipped is easy-mode for a good trigger.
Are you running a forged build? If so, I'd start on a BCM upper receiver, and a better than entry hand guard - BCM or LaRue or the like - quad rail or KM would be good on the short builds. As always, plan your real-estate usage ahead of time to ensure that you're good. Light, Sights, Opticals, etc... Don't lose important space to the wrong choice of length or mounting options.
Don't be too tempted to run lightweight in the short barreled builds. It's tempting, but the weight will help with stability and recoil, which will translate toward real world performance improvements. And the barrel being several to many inches shorter makes them lightweight in and of themselves.

Really depends on how much you want to spend.A Bartlein custom barrel is as accurate as youre going to get, and will run you around $600 from Craddock Precision or PF .You can get a custom criterion from them at around half the price.IMO,Bartlien and Criterion both shoot sub MOA.But, the Bartlein will shoot more accurately for longer. I probably wouldnt bother with a pre-fit barrel if accuracy was one of my top priorities.
As far as triggers, if I spent $600 on a barrel I would want a Geissele NM adjustable Trigger.They are the best,if you want to spend the dough,they will run you $250+.But, as stated above for $80 you can get a Larue 2 stage trigger.I have seven or eight of them, they are awesome.Especially at that price.Im thinking Rebby is still selling them on this site for $70.
I have Geissele national match triggers on my Bartlein builds and Larue 2 stage triggers on my criterion builds.

Sorry ks, your right cheap is relative. Faxon 12" barrels are $225 on their website. Maybe less at other sites. Odin 12" are $305 on their site. Mark from precision firearms sold me a 12" krieger for $300. Yes it was black Friday sale but either way their is no debate between an Odin and Krieger.

WoW! Agreed, that is ridiculous low. Cheap-cheep-cheeperuni. Like Mark would go outa business low, I'd be all over that one... Good snag indeed.
Real price right now for a 12" Krieger is more along the $600 range, but I'd bet you wouldn't complain after 10 rounds. I'd buy one at that price and never look back. Maybe when the Faxon goes... I think I've got some time yet...

I know the Citerion blank he used to make my 12.5 inch is awesome.

Oh man Im so Jealous that is a sweet ass deal on a great barrel! Did you Nitride it or just a bead blast? Im sure your getting half Mia if you do your part!

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah i don't mind spending a bit for a Bartlein or a Lilja. I just don't want to over spend when I'm not using it for competition

I'd find it hard to believe you could make impacts touch at 500, but it'd be sub MOA. If not, and you're doing your part as you should, then they'd take care of you. That's just what you get with them. They have a premium based on the reputation they've built. And they have that reputation because they perform. Simple.
For me, I'd have trouble spending more than $450 on any barrel that short. But I'd spend that all day on any of the three... Finding that, however, would be the fun part. I think there's a Lilja group buy going, and I'm getting tempted.. really tempted, to put a 12.5 on my pistol and tune a load. It'd be a hoot to go score decent points in a club match with a pistol build... That's one of my bucket list items actually... lol. I get giddy just thinking about it...

Thanks guys! I think I've decided in a 12.5" Lilja as my first Grendel through the group buy. We'll see how this goes :-) I may consider a Kreiger or Batlein in a future 20" build. Wish me luck!

Yup, but I decided against a 12.5 and went with a 16" Lilja from @rebby . I already have a 12.5 300 blk, 8" 9mm pcc, 14" 556 so my thought is a 16" will cover medium range needs 500-700 yards. And I'd like to get away from braces when possible lol. Thanks for everyone's advise.
