I have a buddy of mine who is building an AR with an 8 inch barrel for hunting hogs. Hes going to use a Sig Sauer 7.62 suppressor, and he wants to have an adjustable gas block.
I dont have much experience with this situation,I have never shot or owned an adjustable gas block on my AR.But I have heard and have been told in the past got an adjustable gas block wouldnt work well on a short barrel like that because of carbon buildup.
I just want a little advice from those of you who are experienced.

Another option is an adjustable gas key as sold by Rubber City Armory. I just put one on a carrier last night and hopefully test it today. The adjustable gas key should be easier to clean, Id think Kroil would break any carbon loose in the key gas adjustment screw. I bought a RCA adjustable gas key from Right to Bear and a stripped M-16 bolt carrier from JSE Surplus. No one vendor had all the parts I needed.

I have JP Enterprises, Odin Works, Superlative Arms and Wojtek Weaponry adjustable gas blocks. All work well. Superlative Arms the most expensive and Wojtek Weaponry the least expensive.

I tested my RCA adjustable carrier key yesterday and it worked as advertised. The key is easily adjusted if you have an allen wrench.

Thanks a lot bud. I may actually want to try a gas key myself. For around 40 bucks Im thinking its worth the price of admission. I have a suppressed black out which is hitting me in the face with a Lotta gas lately. that might be the thing to tame it down.

I assembled a 12 upper and was going to need a new carrier since I bought a Monster bolt to go with my Group Buy barrel. I thought it was a good time to buy a new stripped carrier and add the RCA adjustable gas key. I have a 16 Carbine gas 6.5 Grendel which is over gassed. I decided this was a way to take care of both builds. The carrier from the 16 and new bolt is what Im using on the 12.
