this request may fall into the oxymoron category but here goes.

is it possible to get a very light weight, longish (22" to 28") 4150 barrel with extension for the 6.5G AR??? trying to figure how to keep the long barrel for ballistics and reduced noise and yet not be hauling around a 10+ lb rifle. most of the barrels that i'm seeing are all HBAR or heavier. for almost any length, but especially over 20". i know there are 3 carbon fiber barrel sellers, but they all use SS and i don't think much in the way of 20+" length, though i might not be remembering that last length point correctly. i am seeing that the original M16 barrels were "pencil" barrels. skinny profile both under the hand guard and past the front sight extension, out to the flash hider. does anyone offer "pencil" profile in 6.5G in 4150 in lengths >20"?
i haven't found yet, but there are a LOT of AR parts suppliers.

You can have a custom shop make you a pencil profile barrel in any length you want.

The longer it is the worse it will shoot because the barrel will start to whip and it will get hot and start to drift very quickly.

Look at a fluted barrel. Ballistic Advantage has fluted barrels and they have been able to eliminate a lot of weight (I have a couple and they are a really nice wt), however the flutes retain the stiffness. Or call Mark at PF, he can flute any of his barrels for you, regardless of length.
That way you get the length but cut down on the weight.

BSF makes a 20.5 inch 6.5 Grendel barrel that is SS fluted and carbon fiber sleeved. I believe it weighs just under 1 3/4 lbs and cost around $630 . Never shot one. Heard guys talking good about it at the Tactical shop. They were going to use it for hunting.

thanks. i'll check PF and BA. i thought BSA used SS for the barrels. will double check. Criterion says they won't do "one off" customs, and i guess i can understand that.
