Getting started on my first 6.5 Grendel Build

A couple videos on my first 6.5 Grendel build. Starting with Raw receivers and going to do a desert camo coating for the first time.

Would appreciate any advise as this goes.

Other than the BCA barrel, I'd be happy with the list so far. Since you're going to be painting it, the actual parts make less difference. You've had good results before with the Guntech rail so you already know what you're getting there. Agree with the finish on the reveivers, I'd have liked to see them be matched, it could change your finished paint. I've never used that stuff though, so you may not see it in the end.

I didn't see your spring extension or your muzzle device. Carbine gas and spring should work fine.

"Plunk test" your barrel before you assemble it, make sure a factory round drops in and out like in your case gauge. Give the drop in some elevation, you want to know it's going to extract and that the throat clears the ogive as it should.

P.S. You may be fortunate with your BCA barrel, it may shoot well. I wouldn't hold out hope for it being great, though. They've proven time and time again that it's like buying a cheap ebay turbo for a car you're thinking about racing. We expect great results, but use cheap parts. The barrel is the heart of your build. Not sure of the motivation behind this choice. First impressions are everything. I'd be remiss not to offer this among my opinions: If I were a betting man, I'd wager that that barrel will perform exactly like it looks, mediocre at best.

Yeah, I'm kinda with you but a local guy has gotten sub .5 moa with his. Luck of the draw? Guess I'll find out Really wanted a WOA barrel but they, as of yet, don't make one. Think they are trying to push their 6mm WOA instead. I have built now 3 rifles with Wilson Combat barrels and they shoot lights out. I own WC 20" 5.56 Wylde and have gotten it to .43 MOA with SMK 77gr handloads.

So, why the BCA? Local rec. plus just thought for the $ I'll give it a try. If it's not what I end up wanting I'll just sell it and drop down a big pile of cash

I'll do the plunk test for sure. Tks! For the rest, Carbine buffer, tube, and spring plus a Larue MBT trigger. Really love those triggers...now have 3!

I believe the group buy barrels and BFTs current barrels are WOA. Might check that out if that's what you're really wanting. They're new, so I think there may be a few manufacturing gremlins still to be worked out on their Grendel barrels. Nothing serious, but they're not going to impress like their match 223wylde heavies do.

Commented on your video but WOW, we have the same taste mate LOL. I have a nearly identical build with exception of the handguard, grip, stock and scope. Love how yours came together, well done.

Got the base coating done and now am beginning assembly. Then on to the camo coating, then snakeskin, then a final matte clear.

I think I noticed in your YouTube that the inside of your scope rings is painted. If that’s the case, I would make sure you strip those before dropping a scope inside. Paint thickness variations will put some stress on your optic.

+1 on the Wilson barrels. I recently got a 16 inch Wilson Combat Recon barrel for my 300 blackout. $237 delivered! It shoots lights out like you described.I will definitely consider a Wilson combat 6.5 Grendel barrel if I do another Grendel build.
As far as BCA goes. I like their upper receivers and their hand rails. I have built uppers for my friends and myself using BCA parts.They are as good as any. As far as BCA barrels they were a waste of ammo for me. I was warned by many. But after wasting 300 rounds break in,with no improvement.I learned my lesson.

Finally finished the coating and assembly. Only issue now is the scope rings are to low for a 50mm objective. They were really a test anyway on coating so a P.E.P.R. mount is on it's way. Then the struggle to coat it or not begins
