Ok. Picked up hardly used BA 16? grendel barrel. Upon measuring I found the gas port to be smaller then .070 (have measured with a drill bit #50- .070 ) and it slides right in.
Emailed BA and they were not helpful and actually never said anything about helping out or drilling it out. As I asked. So screw them at the moment..
Just a fun gun, will be shooting 123?s and wolf mostly. no suppressor at the moment. Or anytime soon.Until I get back up and reloading I am shooting factory stuff
So I have 2 other drill bits 48 & 49 ( .073 & .076 )
Don?t really wanna mess around too much.
Thinking of going .076 right off the bat, ya , na ?

I‘ve saved the gas port sizes that have been posted on the forum previously. I have a Faxon Group Buy 16 inch mid length gas barrel and I like the way it is gassed with a carbine buffer and spring.
6.5 Grendel gas port sizes
12” Faxon GB .068” CLGS.
16” Carbine G. 0625”
16” Faxon GB .078” MLGS
18” Faxon GB .076” MLGS
20” Rifle LG .0935” same as 5.56/223

Id assemble it and shoot it before i drilled it out. Open it up only as necessary for good function.

I second W86F: I recommend first trying it with cheap and low-powered Wolf 100FMJ as a worst-case scenario. Maybe it works and all is good? If not, then hassle with the next step.

Got the same response from BA with my 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Under sized gas port.. tried drilling it out. Good luck! I sold my barrel and moved on.

It wouldn’t cycle 90’s or 107’s and wolf steel case stuff with a carbine or H as is with the small port under - .070
I use a H and above in every rifle.

You can drill it out pretty easily. Place wood dowel in barrel. I used a tap with drill bit- plenty of oil. Make a couple passes with the bit and check for burrs. You might need a adjustable gas block for fine tuning.

What's the gas system length?
If it's CLGS, then a smaller port makes sense.
If it's MLGS, then .076" works well with most factory ammunition in the 100-130gr weight range.

Update
Just assembled said upper and took it out for a few safety checks/1 rd in mag, if it locks back etc.
16 mid length Hanson barrel drilled out to .076
Monster bolt
Rainier m16 farrier
H buffer
Factory 123gr American gunner ammo and Barnaul 100gr steel stuff
It ran fine and ejected, locked the bolt with both types of ammo.
But the Hornady stuff just barely popped out at about 2-3 oclock, maybe a couple feet. While the wolf cases ejected way stronger and about 10 foot at the 5 oclock.
Would of thought the brass stuff with .076 would eject stronger..
Also the monster bolt, I noticed a o ring and black insert.. as the brass cases were pretty gouged from the extractor. Should I try without the oring or insert?

You can try it without the O ring but some of the 6.5 Grendel extractors need to be polished around the corners. Some extractors leave fang like marks on the rim of the brass.

Youve got a lot going on. Couple good things is the gun is operating. Your not getting any failures to feed/failures to eject. Poor ejection could be a number of things. Gas leak, not enough lube(lube carrier/run wet) or simply the gun is still going through the break in process. Gas operation/buffer spring-weight combo can also complicate things.
I had the same issues with my Grendel. Everything has smoothed out. I did and do get hung up on ejection pattern. But.. everything is running. Lube the hell out of it and hit the range.

Next time Im out with it, gonna try without the Oring.
Not one failure of any kind with the wolf/Barnaul 100 steel, or 123gr Hornady bthp.
This is probably upper #20 Ive built, so not new . Just new to grendels, lubed the shit out of it with frog lube for break in.
Polished the chamber and lapped, shimmed and bedded barrel.
Part of my thought was the new thing, plus the oring/insert in the bolt.
