New Barnes Tac-TX 6.5mm offering

I’m curious about the head stamp on the brass of the Barnes factory ammo and the brass manufacturer. I figure the case head will be stamped Barnes but curious if it Starline, Nosler or Hornady. I doubt it is marked Norma or Lapua brass and I don’t think Barnes manufactures brass cases.

btw, an earlier post said the load data from Barnes is the same as the data for the 120 Ttsx. If that's true, for a given rifle/posted load I would expect about ~50 ft/s faster for a bullet of 5 gr less mass -- just a rough estimate. When I get some and load them I'll know better. Important to me b/c I'm looking for it to reach a node MV for me...

if i recall correctly, the company that bought/owns Remington also bought Barnes. so i suspect Remington made brass with a Barnes headstamp.

I didn’t remember Freedom Group taking over Barnes Bullets but your right, search shows 2009. Your probably correct about brass being manufactured at same location as Remington brass. Thanks for info!

Makes sense. Remington drop their 2 loads on the market right before are at the same time Barnes brought this out.

Would seem remmy would be the maker of the brass, since they are making brass for their own loads.

Ordered them from Fine Firearms in La Mesa. Just got word they are in. I will be picking them up on Saturday after a hunt out east.

Went to the range today and shot two ladders, one with IMR 8208 XBR that measured 0.69" and the second with Reloder 15 that measured 0.81". That new 115 grain TAC-TX was outstanding![ATTACH=CONFIG]15606[/ATTACH]

They are there with a "NEW" flag. Look for the TAC-TX label

PF, thanks for vid link. Barnes sales guy says velocity from a "16-18-20-ish" barrel is "2600-ish", minimum expansion velocity is 1400 fps, and BC is 0.387. He says it was based on .300 Blackout bullet technology, so that makes sense.

What would you guess a 12.5 barrel would get ?

123gr Hornady American Gunner bulk HPBT = 2201 FPS ave with SD of 14.7 (2" to 2.55" groups)
123gr Hornady ELD-M Black = 2265 FPS ave with SD of 13.2 (1.4 to 1.7" groups)
123gr Hornady Custom SST Factory= 2277 ave with SD of 11.8 (2.9 to 3.2" groups)

Wolf steel case at 2364 Avg. SD was 9.7.

I previously copied this chronograph data which was posted on this forum. I think being 115 grains you should be able to get around 2275-2300 FPS depending on powder

Wolf steel cased at 2364 FPS is not really considered hot ammo so using CFE223 or Leverevolution, AR Comp and IMR8208XBR you might get the 115 grain Barnes bullet up to around 2325 FPS using a 12 inch 6.5 Grendel barrel.

with a BC of only 0.387 and the local price at $86/50 ($53 US) these TAC TX dont make any sense to me downunder.

Looks like Ill just have to do make to with the OEP 113gr BBT which have a better BC of 0.475 for $84/50 LOL

Just did the range thing today. I was testing loads using H335. 28.0 grains of H335 gave me a 0.72" group, BUT a 27.5 grain load gave me three shots touching and one called flyer. (My son torched off a 45-70 right next to me just as I pulled the trigger. I knew the shot was off immediately.) Anyway, I have a good 3/4" group going now with a potential 4 shots touching group in the future. I'm picking up another box of bullets tomorrow and will be going back to the range once this rain stops to shoot 5 rounds each of the 27.5 and 28.0 loads and a ladder of CFE223 loads. (I finally got some CFE today. Now I can finish up my testing). Pictures attached of the 27.5 (it has a pen line coming in from the left marking the flyer) and 28.0 loads.
