I happen to have IPSC steels made in two different thicknesses. One is 1/2 inch and the other 3/8 like yours.

The 3/8 makes more ring when hit. The 1/2 inch ones just go 'thunk'.

I know a 16 inch plow disk that's 1/4 maybe 3/8 th thick rings something fierce.
