looking for a cmr type scope.......

i have been looking for 1x4 power scope for cmr use. i have looked around and there seems not to be many to choose from. what is out there? i dont like leatherwood. i have looked at grsc scopes. the scope is going to put on my fal carbine. the scope has to be grunt proof and be able to handle ruff us. any info will help. for the hord out there what are you using?

Well, if you want really tough and the price doesn't send you into shock (it does to me sometimes! ), then I'd get a Nightforce NXS 1-4 mounted in whatever Larue makes that is suitable for your FAL. That is about as bombproof as I can think of. Otherwise maybe a Vortex Viper PST like Drifter said-- or if you can live with a fixed 4x then maybe an Acog with the proper 7.62 reticle. If using the Bindon aiming concept is kosher with your manual of arms, then that might pretty well fit the bill for what you are wanting.

The SWFA 1-4x SS and Vortex 1-4x PST would make great optics for a FAL carbine. You could also look into the Burris 1-4x XTR, or Burris 1-4x MTAC.

I put a Burris 1x4 XTR on my Grendel Overwatch and I find it perfect for my use. It is a true 1X and with the illumination dialed in for conditions is almost as fast as a traditional Dot Scope. The reticle works well for the longer shots (300yd max) I get here in GA. I prefer the XTR reticle to the MTAC because my regular shooting/hunting partner and I are addicted to shooting medicine bottles of Tannerite at ranges beginning at 100 and out to 350yd (the max distance of the field we use). the center circle allows me to center on the small bottles like a "peep" site. The larger solid red dot on the MTAC I tried covered the bottle at the same distance. Only time will tell how well it will hold up to rough use and hard knocks but I have been using Burris LER scopes on my hunting handguns in 41, 44 and my 45Colt, feeding them a steady diet of my heavy cast bullets for 15 plus years without a failure. Would I bet my life on a Burris..... yes without any hesitation. My XTR at IX has enabled me to make guick shots on two pigs in close in a South GA swamp that we hunt often and I'm not real sure who was hunting who at times but the pucker factor can get real high when they come tearing out of the bushes at you.

I have two 1-4x GRSC's, and I'm concerned that they don't hold windage. I know the first one doesn't. I like most everything about the scope, but I'm still trying to determine if the new one holds zero. Not comforting so far. The 1-6x is supposed to be good-to-go, since it's Japanese made, but I'm just not sure about the 1-4x's. The glass on them is great, the size is awesome since they are 9.25" long, the magnification ring turns smoothly, and the 1x is great for close-up work. Eye relief is very forgiving, as is exit pupil.

Illumination isn't bright enough for daylight sun-out use.

i ended up buying the grsc. i couldnt pass on the price. i got a good vet discount. i first read about grsc in shotgun news and it had a good review.

I admit to being unaware of the GRSC scope before this thread. Interesting scope and a similar reticle design. I like the 6X on the high end of the range. Looks like you picked a winner.

The only down side is looking through a tube while chasing running hogs in an aircraft will have an unsettling effect on your gut. Yup. Ed is a very good dude, and has squared me away. The Korean 1-4x is leaps and bounds above the Chinese Millett POS. I do like the reticle design for its intended purpose, and I love how small and forgiving the 1-4x is. I'm working on the illumination issue, and don't know what to do about the gears. Elevation has been fine in both, but the 1st definitely experienced some zero-shift in a 5.56 carbine. It could be that I ran the scope through its mechanical range to find the mechanical zero when first received it. The 2nd one was about dead-on when I mounted it, so I didn't jack with it other than fine-tuning the zero at 100yds.

I'll have to play with it some more, but I am apprehensive about doing load development with it because there is that element of doubt as to whether the groups are affected by an outside factor. For making basic hits on-target with my 5.56 blasters, it works fine. Ed never meant it to be a precision scope.

I agree that a non-magnified optic is the way to go from helos, and the FOV of the Eotech would also be at the top of my list for that.
