Thanks, DNS, I assume that is because it gets better/quicker kill ratio. I know everybody hates the poor old hogs but I sure miss hunting them from when I had them on my deer lease! Farmers had them trapped in huge corrals when they invaded their corn fields bordering 3 sides of my lease.

This is from the same property where I encountered two hogs in the tree line at short range and only managed to shoot one of them. This hogs were at twice the distance and were dropped nicely, though the 2nd hog required a 2nd shot in order cease its forward progress. Even so, with the amount of blood he was losing, I don't think he would have gotten very far...

Well, I made the rookie mistake of thinking my first shot would drop my first target cleanly and I was transitioning to pick up a second target before realizing my first wasn't down. It is a sort of gamble. If you transition quickly, you are more apt to pick up other runners. If you stay on target and verify the hog is down, you can deliver a follow-up shot more quickly and then try to pick up runners, but if the hog goes right down, then you wasted time watching it when you could be on target elsewhere.

Turns out, shot #1 would have been fine. The hog was mortally wounded and wasn't apt to last long, but I did not know this until cutting it open. So I spent time trying to make sure it didn't get away and putting it out of its misery and the piglets got away cleanly. Two of the four Speer Gold Dot bullets were recovered. They expanded nicely and had great weight retention. The other two shots exited.

Ben of HuntTXhogs came along with me on Friday night and we only managed a singular hog early in the night and then spent a lot of time canvassing property after property, over and over. He spotted on additional hog that we went after in a big field, but it was on the far side and apparently had somewhere to be, leaving the property before we got within 500 yards of it.

Did this video a little differently. Doing videos, people like to critique what you are doing and I get comments about 3 times a month that I talk to much. So this is a quieter, video. All the information is presented, just not voiced-over. My Speer Gold Dot did well through muscle tissue of the shoulder and the neck, but missed directly contacting anything solid. Ben's .243 BXR ammo hit farther back than he intended, but because the hog was quartered away from us, did a lot of damage. The Gold Dot exited, I suspect fully exited. We recovered just under half of the BXR bullet.
