Doublestar/J&T Chrome Lined barrels

Looking at putting together an upper for steel case wolf ammo and just wanted to see what the Hord's opinion/experience with these was.

I don't love that they're 4140 and if I could find one I'd prefer a Sabre defense but those seem to be pretty much gone.

My money would go too AA. Been rocking a 16 inch AA barrel for over 5500 rounds now. Close to if not just over 5000 of those rounds have been wolf fmj.

Barrel still shoots sub moa with my hunting ammo.

Mark from PF recently mentioned he has some 14.5" barrels in stock. Simply to pin & weld to bring up to 16" once you ensure it is running properly.

Since it will be going with a 15 inch Phase 5 handguard, that would look really slick. I sent PF an email asking about availability and price. I know those are m4 profile barrels, which I'm not crazy about but this is a just-for-fun upper.

They also sell muzzle devices to fit their thread pattern. I belive they have started changing over to 5/8x24 threads as well.

Point I was trying make is. You don't need chrome lined barrels to shot wolf fmj ammo. And it's not really going to give you anymore anything really over a non chrome lined barrel.

Not saying the doublstar/jt barrel won't work. I just don't know first hand what their products are like, where I know AA puts out topshelf products.

Well the 15" rail adds a bit of twist to a 14.5" length, you will need to either use a linear comp or a muzzle device that starts to vent past the handguard. Below is 14.5" barrel with a 13.5" rail laying next to a 15" rail for reference, it can be done just know what you are getting into to start.

I understand. I have an AR Performance (I know) 16 inch barrel and I'll be picking up a Proof Research stainless 20 inch. This is again a "just for fun" upper

Moot point. PF emailed me back about the barrels. They have the attached A2 sight. Removing that plus a pin and weld is more work than I'm willing to put in/have a gunsmith do. I'm aware of the need for the muzzle device to vent past the handguard though.

Nobody here has used the Doublestar/J&T barrels? Guess I may end up being the guinea pig...

Double Star/ JT are good to go. Haven't used any of their Grendel barrels but ar15 stuff has always worked just fine.

I have a 16” J&T Distributing 6.5 Grendel CMV barrel with 1:9 twist and it is an accurate barrel. My barrel is 4140 steel but it should hold up fine as long as I don’t cook it with mag dumps.

I have a 24" heavy SS Double Star Grendel, the first I ever bought several years ago, 2014-2015 if I recall correctly. It's as accurate as anything I have, including a Les Baer 24" heavy SS barrel, going out nearly 400 yards. I did some searching sometime ago on who makes it, and kept being led back to Shaw. Today, I use it mainly for steel case ammo and have been tempted to have it cut back to 16" because I definitely don't need 2 heavy-assed Grendels. But I kinda hate doing, too.

From the responses of users on here & others I've found elsewhere on the web, this seems to be the consensus. Basically "more accurate than they probably should be". I think it will serve me fine for this purpose.
