Improved my Grendel reliability

My grendel had poor reliability until I worked some bugs out

I replaced the extractor/spring/rubber donut.

Installed an seekins adjustable gas block....tuned it.

and noticed, when shooting side by side with my old 6.8SPC, hitting the bolt release, the bolt running home felt much less...smooth...kinda chunky as it fed.

I looked at my CPD mags, and notice the mouth of the brass was banging into the front top of the magazines.

I carefully filed a ramp into the front of my mags.




This rifle also runs reliably with my ancient CProducts 6.8SPC mags.

Since tuning the extraction, and mags, I've been running it hard, 20 round mag dumps with crappy wolf ammo.

it's been running great, 200 rnds, so far, not one malfunction, and solid hits on 400 yard steel, all with dirty crappy wolf.

I had a newer CPD that swelled & split, and Brownells offered to exchange with a 17 E-lander. ( been waiting weeks )

My current favorite is the 17 E-lander,....or honestly...my ancient 6.8 25 rounders, loaded with 20 6.5G's

Had to do that too the ASC mags when I first got into the grendel. Never had any of my CPD mags I use to use need it.

Moved on to a diffrent mag setup now, but cpd was for me atleast the best of all the metal grendel mags I had tryed.

Who's extractor? Never had to do that to any AA,JP are group buy bolts extractors before.

original was Brownells, . . . replaced by TOOLCRAFT extractor

suspect the brownells may have been toolcraft ????

the way I shotgunned this project, who knows what helped the most, I kept the original extractor as a spare, but haven't tuned it yet.

That's a good idea on the magazines. I have a E-lander 17 round magazine that isn't reliable. I'll give that a try.

As far as the extractor, I haven't had to file on any of mine. I actually took out the o-ring on my group buy bolt. This put similar tension on the extractor like my Maxim bolt. No issues.

brownells has a mag lip adjusting tool. or you can make one with a long smooth shanked bolt, a grinder, a hacksaw, and time. has anyone tweaked the mag lips to angle the 6.5G rounds with just slightly more rise or nose up attitude? i didn't have a problem until i dropped one of the mags and bent the feed lips. so i tweaked it back. and then tweaked a slight nose up attitude. quite slight. just not quite level. both sides. have not had a mag problem at all.

I had the polish one of my extractors the same way, it was a group buy extractor and I couldn't even pull a round out of battery. My second group buy extractor was fine.
