I bought a bear creek arsenal 18 inch upper with 1 in 8 twist barrel. I put Mag pul MBUS PRO sights on it, Shot some black label hornaday 123 grain bullets (about a buck a round) and they are basically 1 inch at 100 yards. the upper cost about 190 bucks. the sights were around 100 bucks. I have a Larue 17 round magazine, a C products 10 rounder and 26 rounder. They were about 20 bucks each.
I've been working up loads using 8208, Varget, and BL-C2 so far with the 120 ELD hornaday bullets. Got one load that is 1 inch.
Next up is test loads for 123 SST bullets using AR comp powder.
I hope to get a good group of about 1/2 inch. I am used to 1/2 inch or LESS as I used to shoot prairie dogs.
this is my first experience with the Grendel round.
I have a target grade Rock River rifle that I am using the lower with this upper. It has a timney trigger.

27.5gr arcomp shot very good out of my 18" RLGS, but, it was short stroking occasionally. Switched to 30.0gr CFE223. It shoots just as good, and so far everything cycles fine. Oh, I also drilled out the port a couple thou. Good luck with yours.

Best deal I've ever seen on 6.5 Grendel ammo. $0.23/shot - delivered. Steel of course, but even with bulk components I can't reload for this.

Interestingly enough, the 100 gr bullet they use in this ammo is one of the better bullets for distance shooting, in terms of bullet drop. While the heavier 123 gr etc are popular, I've found and calculated that the higher velocity of this 100 gr bullet out of a Grendel results in flatter trajectory and less elevation adjustment need out to 800 yards+; it's a good bullet design. Just be aware this is obviously cheap construction of the good designed bullet, so it's 2-2.5 MOA ammo; if you're gun likes it. It gets worse from there. For whatever reason, it seems like cheaper barrels seem to shoot better with this in my limited observation than expensive barrels do - I don't know why (and wouldn't call that statement an absolute either!)

Yea that's a good price for plinking self defense ammo.

It can't compete at 800 yards in drop compared to a 123 target bullet.

That is incorrect. 123 doesn't even catch up until 800 yards:

800 yards:
123 gr Hornady ELD, 20" BBL = +7 Mrads
100 gr Wolf Steel, 20" BBL = +7.1 Mrads.

Since pretty much nobody actually shoots 800 yards other than gong-play; for all practical and most extended ranges, the Wolf Steel is flatter trajectory (i.e. less sensative to accurate range estimation), than 123 gr.

I did. I walked it out to 800 yards quite easily actually. Handed the rifle and cheap Wolf ammo to another shooter, had a chart of the aiming reference points on the scope, and he walked it out to 800 yards quite easily himself. We tried doing the 1000 yard gong, but by then the gong (which increase in size with distance) was too heavy and too far, so maybe we were hitting it, but couldn't tell.

My experience with it in my AA 16" is ~1.5 MOA. It does about as well from my 16" Faxon GB. It's reliable as far as function goes. Just ordered another case. Good price.

I just bought a 6.5 upper from them. Waiting for it to be delivered. They aren't going out of business. They did, however, just run into two problems that they've just resolved.

The first is they have a 1 MOA guarantee for their barrels. And apparently they got some bad 6.5 ones in. So they basically had to find a new supply of them and are taking back all the ones that are failing. They have _just_ started selling them again. Other than getting a bad batch of barrels in, I've heard nothing but good things from them. I've got a couple of friends who swear by them.

The second is more rumor. _Apparently_ they lost half their build work-force to an ICE raid. ;-) That's just rumor, however.

I just purchased a 500 round case of wolf 100gr 6.5 Grendel from Brownells for $121.xx including tax and shipping. That's under $0.25 per trigger pull. I have not tried the wolf yet but I need to improve my technique so this should fit the bill. The ammo is on sale and coupon code vba got me another $10 of and free shipping.

Satern did have some inexpensive 6.5G barrels available this morning. Saw on FB and jumped on a 22" double fluted 6.5Grendel barrel for $65...got a Maxim bolt as well. Shockingly, they didn't charge me sales tax and free shipping to boot.
