Due to the heat I hadn't even gone out to the lease but once since the owner showed it to me but two thursdays ago I went out and put up two feeders. I did see a large feral hog dicking around on the dirt road in front of the gate but I scared it off by yelling at my dog that had just jumped out of the truck to go after said pig (And Amber actually called off!). I figured wednesday would be a good time to return and spend a night watching deer activity. Didn't turn out that way. I have a hog toy built from a blue 17 gallon drum about 150 yards past the gate that I knew was empty. Behind it is a nice view over a stock pond so I walked pat the hog toy to look down on the pond when I notice three hogs to my right doing the same thing. I smoothly turn around and walk back to the truck, get my Model 7 out from behind the seat and jack a round in the chamber, then sneak back carefully looking for hogs through the wild plum bushes. I see one looking my way under the brush and shoot him in the face. He is a brown 125 pounder and in great condition. I hang him and gut him. So now even though it is sort of cool I know I have to top the feeders off and get the hog back to the processor. Time on lease less than 45 minutes! However I am kicking myself for not having my Grendel in hand when I went sightseeing! I believe that I could have gotten at least two of them if I had been ready instead of enjoying a beautiful day. So going back saturday with the Grendel as my main rifle and also with a bit more serious attitude about hog control. The place is over run with them, in fact after deer season is over I may run some hunts to make some corn and gas money. So far there have been 4 total visits to the lease by lease members and over 40 hogs seen in broad daylight. That said I have been the only one with a rifle ready talk about some laywhoo hunters!
