A good friend of mine got a Ruger American predator and 64.5 Grendel from Grab a Gun. It cost him $430 total including FFL transfer .
I went with him to the range today to shoot it.His 10rd And 20 rd AR 6.5 Grendel mags fit. And it shot pretty good groups with Hornaday ELDM handloads .
I got to shoot it and I actually liked it .But if I ever got one the trigger and the stock would have to go, the stock is horrible ,it feels cheap.Trigger is gritty and has a long pull.
It?s a Ruger so I?m sure there are aftermarket barrels and triggers already out there . But has anyone changed out the stock ?If so,who makes one?
I?m probably not going to rush out and buy one of these. I?m not ready for another project . But still I would like to know my options .
By the way,in case you are wondering,he put a 4-16x50 Vortex Diamondback scope on it.Which,would not have been my choice.But,it worked.

Tell him to read the directions and adjust the trigger. They can be adjusted down pretty light and crisp with virtually no pre-travel ... at least all three that I have right now adjusted down just fine.
Waiting on a Grendel Predator swap from Grabagun right now. Went to pick it up Tuesday after work and a 2.5-3" section of the barrel just in front of the receiver had been scraped down to the bare metal. I rejected the transfer and they are going to send another one.
I put a 6mm Creed Ruger Predator into a Boyds ID-one thumbhole stock. I love Rugers but gotta agree with FLs, their stocks are tragic. Their rifles are fantastic. I got their bottom metal with the stock and am getting sub qtr-minute groups with factory ammo. Make the change, enjoy the gun.
RAPs and Howa 1500s are easily some of the best budget options for some multi purpose rifles. They shoot well and when paired with a simple Boyd?s stock you have a very capable platform for hunting or target shooting. Caliber will dictate the rest but I have not had a bad shooter yet from neither after 30+ assemblies for family and friends. Howas actions are smoother out the gate but triggers are a step behind Rueger. Rushers will smooth out action wise with a small polishing and use and triggers adjust surprisingly well with no aftermarket springs needed. Howas do best if you order the spring replacement from the Aussie on eBay. The grrrr and the 6 Creed are my two favorite rifles right now...Howa and RAP respectively
Boyds has just recently released stocks for the predator with ar mags. my predator with factory stock and trigger shoots sub m.o.a. it really likes 28gr of 8208 and 123 sst's shot 2- 10 shot groups that you could cover each with a quarter.

I looked at going the Howa and Ruger way as well, but with a new chassis stock.
I favored Ruger beacause I like the idea of using AR15 mags.
Regretfully, I ran into the mag issue using Howa, AICS mags and I backed off.
Further research led me to the MDT LSS-XL Gen 2 which would use AR15 mags with a Ruger American Predator 6.5G.

I searched on their webpage and found the Sporter stock for both the American and Predator contour barrels but nothing in regard to working with AR mags.
when you go thru the choosing process, last step for the ruger predator centerfire is a) ar mag, or b) dbm... so pick the AR choice and all of the stocks are available. that AR choice is not for any 308 based etc cartridge but works for the 223 class, etc. Now for the 6.5's it says yo need a specific-mag, which we know anyway... the 6.5 Grendel mag.
I looked at them this morning, the AR styles start at $199 whereas the regular dbm's start at 165 dollars.

I know I need another rifle like a hole in the head. But I have been thinking about a 6.5 Grendel bolt action.I own CZ527 varmint rifles and love them. But the reason I would probably lean towards the RAP is because are readily available and I can have a custom rifle quickly and inexpensively compared to the CZ.
Have you looked into getting a high-end quality barrel for your REP yet?

I am a lefty but, would like to get one of these to setup on a nice stock or chassis.
Both seem like affordable options to go bolt bun in 6,5 Grrrr

For what its worth.... Boyds and I exchanged emails regarding other Ruger, American Ranch models, and they recently released stocks with the necessary magwell components to make that work with AR mags. I would imagine that the Predator line would have had similar treatment. You might look into it again, or email them. Their response time was pretty good considering.. And, less than a week after the "No, we don't carry that or make it" response, I received the "They are in the store now" response.
I just ordered a Boyds AT-One Thumbhole stock (Nutmeg laminate) for the Ruger American Predator.
Boyds confirmed their stock (AR mag) will take AR15 6.5 Gendel mags.
Now I need the Ruger rifle.....
