Extraction problem AGAIN

FRB: I use 10 round mags primarily because they don't get in the way when shooting off the top of a fence post (which is what I do most of the time), and they are more comfortable while riding my bicycle with the rifle slung across my back.
I've been using a "C Products" most of the time. I have an Elander that I've had fully loaded and laying on the bench for several months waiting for the spring to relax so it's not so hard to load :mad: I now have it in the rifle loaded with factory 123 SST's. I'll see what that does as time allows. I think I used it at the beginning of this "saga", and had to file down the front where the bullets were "catching" when shooting. Thanks for mentioning .

Justin: The buffer is stock DPMS carbine. The spring measures up to spec. It IS older, but doesn't have thousands of rounds on it. Brass has never looked abused. What did you use to "shim" it. Thanks for the reply.

A5BLASTER: You are probably right, but I am one of those guys that just can't seem to give up. I've got a "weedeater" I've been working on for 2 weeks now, and haven't fixed it either:confused:
I don't think I'll try another. I'll just put the scope on the 5.56 and use it. If there was someone I really didn't like, I'd give this one to them.:o I still think it is (and has been from the start) under gassed. Before I quit, as a last resort, I am going to drill the gas port out until it cycles better, or becomes over gassed, then put the ADJ gas block on if it becomes necessary Thanks for your help, I appreciate you folks contributions to this site.

Before you drill see if you can get a accurate measurement of what it is now. And post it here please before you drill it out.

As I said, drilling will be the last resort (but that's getting closer all the time).
I am going to load a few rounds with CFE223 and see if the slower powder will give me a bit more energy to cycle.(as I have read).
The port was originally 0.094. I drilled it to 0.096 and very little difference was noted. Next step IF it comes to that, will be 0.098 using a number 40 drill bit. Not quite as accurate as pin gages, but close enough. IF the cfe223 seems to help, I might try some leverevolution as well. I have the cfe223 on hand. I'll check out the link for pin gages, thanks

New load, shot 5 rounds one at a time, loaded with 30gr CFE223, 123 SST's(which is the bullet I normally load). All 5 locked the bolt back with "authority" , the brass ejected more briskly landing in the same spot 8-10feet at 4 to 4:30. The recoil was noticeably "healthier" and the accuracy was surprising for a new load/new powder. First round 1/2" low 1/2" right, second one was 1/2" low, 1/4" right. Rounds 3,4, and 5 were an elongated hole dead on the bull. Wind was a bit blustery, left to right. I used the Elander 10 rd mag. The spring has finally relaxed a little, so not as hard to load. I'll continue to use it for a while along with the new load, and see what happens next.

Very good. Glad to hear you've found something that works. Try the 129 sst while you're at it. May smooth the recoil impulse and drive better. Great combo for me.

Thanks, but I'm not celebrating yet. This thing has been jerking me back and forth ever since I got it.
I don't mind the recoil, it's not that much, and if it will make the rifle work better, I'll take it. Have to see how it feels in the field. I don't do much shooting from the bench. I have thought about trying the 129 btsp for a while, but other things have had priority. Have you ever used them? They used to be cheaper than the sst, at academy with free shipping to boot, but I don't see them on their website now. So, I'll try the 129 sst when I get a chance. Thanks for the reply and the tip, and for all the helpful info you input to the site.
