SSK. It's very accurate.
It's at the pressure limit of the Contender frame, so you can do it in Encore if you want.

Thanks. Yea, I've got a very tolerant wife. The night vision can be removed instantly, and just snapped back on. I've used EoTechs for a while, have one on a .223, and my .458 (which makes a great hog gun, and I'll consider putting the night vision on that one too, but the recoil is a little more. I put one on my daughter's mouse gun I built for her too.

Just some friendly advice, but I wouldn't put your monocular on your .458 if it were me. I'd at least research that heavily. I know PVS-14s aren't supposed to ride anything heavier recoiling than a 5.56. The older Gen 3s will supposedly live longer, but if your tube is pinnacle or one of the other newer units its days would likely be shortly numbered on a heavy recoiling system. The housings weren't really designed for it, and ITT has warned against it. Littons aren't immune either.

I've had multiple vendors blow smoke up my butt at work about this issue in the past also.

If anyone wants to know what recoil damage looks like-- it looks a lot like this:

( I'm posting on an iPad, so I had to steal that pic from "Dino1130" over on Arfcom, but he is a very helpful guy so I doubt he'll mind if it helps save a tubes life someday.LOL)

The gist of the problem is that the newer tubes mount the plates much closer together these days to reduce halo effect. Unless they are in shock isolated mounts specifically intended for weapons sighting, they don't like heavy recoil at all.

I'm no expert, but you can also ask Victor over on Arfcom's Night Vision forum and I'm sure he'll back it up. What monocular are you using, and do you know what tube is inside of it? Is it a pinnacle? If its pre pinnacle, do you know what Omni contract equivalent it is?

That's some really good information, and I appreciate it. It is an N-Vision Optics, Cage 3ZNR4, Model GT-14. Right now, the mount is on there for any possible night varmints that might try to invade my homestead, and it would be for one shot, and that would be worth the cost. I practice with the rifle always with it off, and will continue to do so until I know more. I know the recoil on that short barreled Grendel rifle with the mid length gas system is very light, but I don't have a g-meter on it, and know what shock is coming in through the mount. I know the .458 would be a lot more.

Ok, cool. I don't know much at all about the GT-14, but I'll surmise that it has a tube similar or the same as the PVS-14s do and simply in a commercial housing. You're probably good to go on 5.56, and personally I use my PVS-14 on Grendels also. Even my 10.5" has some heft to it with the 762-SD on it. You might be able to find out more info in the Arfcom NVG forum or some of the others.

I haven't used my tube on the Grendels very much, but I'm still ticking along with no apparent damage for now. A very light Grendel would start to make me nervous with stout loads. I usually leave mine head mounted and just use an IR laser though.

The head mount idea sounds pretty good. I like the advice, and will likely not go more than the Grendel with the tube. Bummer for Coyotes.
