Need some advice on which way to go.
I had my rig out today, after disassembly, remounting the barrel, etc.
I am shooting a Odin works 20? 1-8 and a vortex scope.
After finding that my accuracy is roughly 3-5? @ app, with both black and the sst hornady ammo, I decided to mount a different scope.
I had two groups roughly 2-1/2? with the black ammo.
I came home and tore the gun apart, only to find that the vortex scope had slid in the mounts. This was after I bought the FAT wrench and tightened them to 17# with blue Loctite.
This may explain the initial issues, but not the issues with the second proven optic, nor would it explain the first outing that was horrible to say the least. The scope was hand tightened on the first outing, as I always have, but I wanted to reset it by the books and it moved. Reassembly included warming the upper and thermofitting the barrel extension with .002? shims. This left me with about .0005 interference fit.
Would you just send both the vortex and Odin back for review?

If the scope moved in the mount,...the mount is bad not the scope, replace that test again with known good scope,..then proceed from there.

Tell us again what mfr of components you're using, for the upper receiver, HG and barrel nut.
And how many rounds so far for the Odin break in?
Odin usually has decent barrels, it's maybe too early to know if the barrel has any issues.
If the Vortex scope has internal or other issues, then I'd send it in... it sounds though something's up with the mounts you're using, both for the Vtx and the other one.
Definitely don't go over the 18 in-pds recommended by Vortex that will void its warranty.
When you torque you need to alternate back and forth, and cris-crossing on the mount screws... plus you have to keep torquing until none of the screws budges at the torque setting, b/c tightening one can loosen another.
Not sure what or why you're using shims but don't put anything between the extension and the upper. You might however want to lap that end surface on the upper to ensure it is square and flat. Shouldn't take much.

I?m running a vortex pst gen 2 in a vortex cantilever mount.
Aero upper with a 17? UTG hand guard and 20? Odin heavy barrel.
Nothing is touching the barrel during operation and everything is tight. The closest contact I had was the gas block and I trimmed the edges 45 degrees to insure nothing was touching. I probably have .060 clean in that area.
The gun still only shot 2-1/2? today with a Burris scope that has been proven on three other guns.
The vortex acted like crap on the first outing and now it moved in the vortex mount.
I am running 20# on the base and 17# on the scope rings.

As for shot count, I should be about 160 ish.
It was cleaned every shot for 10 and after every 5 shot group for another six times.
I didn?t not clean today, until I got home, but I have never let the barrel get very hot.
It?s a nice shiny bore after cleaning tonight.

Muzzle device and how attached? Tried without one?

Pull the muzzle device off and see how it groups without it. If the groups improve alot, that is most of your problem.
When you go to reinstall it use a accuwasher so it can be timed correctly and held on by some locktite and hand tight.
Also I would find a diffrent handguard. Any time you add parts to an attachment point your adding in more fail points. Find a matrix arms handguard it will be non indexing for the gas tube and no shims are needed.

Only using a thread protector currently. I have shot with and without it.
I planned to get the Odin comp, but have not made it that far.
The gun is a bit jumpy, even when I?m running fairly mild gas.

One more thing comes to mind reading your updates, that is that AR's sometimes need a much firmer grasp than bolt guns, plus cheek weld. Try having another known-good shooter and the Hornady black match, to see if he/she has the same groups/issues. If not then the gun is working and maybe need to work on your fit-up and grip.

I have 2 Odin uppers and they shoot lights out on all of my lowers.....
Don’t shoot factory, only reloads.

Thank you for all the replies.
I had mentioned previously that my gun is jumpy without a comp. it seems to go up and left.
Would a unit like the Odin works atlas comp stop that? I need to pick a brake for this gun regardless. It?s 5/8-24. Any suggestions under 100$?

I highly recommend the VG 65, gamma brake for 6.5 caliber. On Armorally last I checked you can get it for about $60 but it works like a million. Make sure to wear hearing protection.... but you should be doing that anyway.
And get either a "jam nut" 5/8-24 or the accuwasher system, so you can tighten it down without crush washers and use some loktite blue... the unsymmetrical distortion of the crush washer on the barrel leads to uneven torques and can make funny results.

I also recomment the VG65 I have three of them.
