Anyone have an updated list of just who out there is supplying left handed grendel type II receivers (do not want side charger), BCGs, ambi extension barrels etc? Would love to be able to source everything from one place... Seems that it is going to be a case like that ol song..it was a chevy/ford/dodge/lincoln...but it still went down the road.. Some have type II, others have type I...and both talk about the other as if they were the devil hisself...if you use them, your gun will blow up and kill the world... Come on people...get it together...

The only source I know of for left hand 6.5 Grendel bolt is Maxim. I’ve read that a left hand bolt will normally function with a standard mil spec barrel extension. I have never built a left hand AR-15 so I have no personal experience. You might search this forum as left hand 6.5 Grendel have been discussed in the past.

One possible source for all the other parts to complete your build is JSE Surplus. JSE carry left hand uppers and 6.5 Grendel barrels from different manufactures. Some of the barrels sold by JSE Surplus are head spaced to use .125 bolt face depth 7.62x39 bolts referred to as Type 1 bolts. You could use a barrel chambered to use x39 .125 bolt and use a left hand x39 bolt which might be available from more vendors compared to .136 6.5 Grendel bolt.
If I were building a left hand 6.5 Grendel I’d stick with the 6.5 Grendel bolt with .136 bolt face depth.

Ulmapache,
You could build a standard gun and use ambi parts; - ambi charge handle
- Mag release both sides
- ambi selector
- Carrier release both sides.
Quite a few lowers now have integral slide release both sides.
Shooting a standard AR left-handed means you can see into the chamber without having to tilt the gun.

You may have trouble also with getting a barrel with an extension for a left hand bolt. I am dealing with a Stag 10L (my son's) in 6.5 Creedmoor. We are looking into putting a new a new barrel in it. There are not many making extensions for a left hand bolt. I talked to Precision Firearms and they were going to need the old barrel for the extension. My advice to you is that if you can live with it do a right hand build. It will be MUCH cheaper to build a right hand upper and fewer problems. A right hand extension will work with a left hand bolt but it will put extra wear on both because the hard edges. This Stag has also been a problem child since day one. I would stick to the .136 bolt face also but be prepared to run into few "kinks" to work out and an ample funds to work with.

Ok..thx for all the replies...Popeye, you need to find a barrel with an "ambi" barrel extension...there are a few out there. The only reason I'm going with a leftie is the brass issue...using a brass catcher, the bag flies up into my face...a distraction. If and when I get this monster built, I will post where I got all the components...I've seen some posts where the builder mentions a component, but will not divulge the make or source....cannot think of why, unless the maker of the component is not playing by the rules and is making "other" components...Ok, wish me luck...I believe I can see the light at the end of the gbrendel barrel...LOL!!!

ulmapache,
I am a leftie and have never had an issue with a brass catcher. They remain below the sight line and don't get in your face.
But, you seem committed so good luck to you.

I have noticed that also shooting this left hand creedmoor AR10. I did have to adjust the brass catcher and fired a few rounds without with no issues. This gun has cured me from any inclinations to get an AR10

Damn double damn...everyone is out of stock on everything left handed... Only thing I can find is the Faxon barrel with the ambi extension. Not sure about the Stag upper...they will not sell just the left handed bolt carrier, just the complete unit...and NOT in grendel. So building a grendel bcg using other suppliers for a Stag upper might not fly...Us lefties ought to start a class action discrimination lawsuit...LOL!!!!!

Found a leftie bolt carrier...found a leftie bolt...found a leftie upper receiver... Things are looking up...now, if only the ejector doesn't have to be a leftie...I think I'm in business...

Ejector is part of the bolt so if you have a left side eject bolt, left hand upper and a Faxon barrel with compatible barrel extension you should be gtg.

I wanted one. Then I shot one. Done. No thanks. Too damned heavy, no real advantage from the 308 to the Grendel, and well, just meh. So much harder to build too, can't get parts, unless you're willing to pay for what is in stock. Nope. Gave up on that, and bought my LaRue. Same money, better quality than I'd build myself on my first one by a mile, and performance I can't fault. Done.

Every thing you said is true. It is a bean field or stand gun only. Too heavy and cumbersome to cruise through the woods. Should be classified as heavy weapons or light artillery.....

Ok...maybe we're getting into the weeds..Grendel as heavy artillery....LOL...Anyway, here's what I know: Red X has leftie uppers and bolt carriers. Underground Tactical has leftie bolts type I only...they will not make any more after these are gone. Maxim has both types of bolts, ordered a type II, have not heard from them...left several emails, no reply. Hope maxim isn't some kind of scam.... Might order the leftie type I bolt from Underground Tactical just to have it around for the next build. Type I barrels can be found, but type II are more plentiful. Upper and bolt carrier arrived today...just waiting on the rest of the stuff...

I would not fool with the Type I stuff. But that's just my opinion only.

Ja, it seems that some of the folks pushing the type I stuff have a personal axe to grind...just sayin'....

Ok, got my upper at Red X as well as the leftie bolt carrier...the bolt came from Maxim Firearms...everything else is standard, build to your taste and style...might want to start out with an "ambi" lower...Aero Precision has them...and Faxon Barrels have the "ambi" barrel extension. Now, some will argue that the ambi extension is not necessary...I say fine and good, but I'm not taking any chances. Good luck on your build... BTW...the Maxim bolt is "complete" with gas rings, extractor etc. Might want to pick up a "master rebuild kit" from a supplier...has the firing pin, cam pin and other odds and ends to make the world go 'round. Cryptic Coatings has them in various colors...nice to have gold hi lites on your BCG... Remember...ask those dumb questions...prevents expensive dumb mistakes...
