New to the 65Grendel community

I am new to the 6.5 Grendel community and would love some advice! How does the 6.5 stack up as a hunting round for deer, antelope and elk? Is it a legal hunting round in most or all states? Any advice would be most helpful. Thanks.

as for the hunting purposes, great round for medium sized game, deer, antelope, bear, etc....but i'm a firm believer that as the animal gets bigger the round needs to get bigger with more energy resulting in more knock down power, you will see that people have taken elk on here with the Grendel, however I would opt for something bigger...yep you an kill and elk with the Grendel, with a well placed shot, but we know that doesn't always happen and it wouldn't be as forgiving as the shock from a larger caliber/bullet combination

Welcome, Reaper1. The Grendel is legal here in Washington & Idaho. Though I haven't hunted with it yet (still building), I don't see any problem with using it for most species ... within reason. 6.5mm bullets have been dropping moose in Scandinavia for over 100 years, but those bullets were out of a 6.5x55, about 160-grains and faster than a Grendel. That said, I've been hunting whitetails all my life and all the deer I've shot with a .30-30 and .30-'06 I have no doubt would be just as dead had I used a Grendel and a good 120-grain bullet. The bull elk I dropped a few years ago (grazing, broadside, 360 yards, 7mm 165gr Sierra through the lungs) would probably have fallen to a Grendel as well. I wouldn't choose a Grendel to go specifically elk hunting, but I have no doubt it'll get the job done if the circumstances were right. My Grendel is being built with deer & wolves in mind.
