Can anyone tell me what the difference is between 6.5 Grendel and 50 Beowulf extractors? I ordered a spare extractor and think I may have gotten the wrong one.

IIRC the Beowulf is modified because of the rebated rim, needing clearance to allow the case to pivot out and eject. I remember reading that somewhere but correct me if I'm wrong.

I copied this from the AA web site. The question was is a 6.5 Grendel bolt the same as a 50 Beowulf bolt. I suggest you call AA. I suspect the actual rim thickness and rim shape are different on the 6.5 Grendel compared to the 50 Beowulf thereby necessitating a different extractor.

The bolt itself is the same as the .50 Beowulf®, but the extractor is different and so the assemblies are not interchangeable. If you may also use this bolt in a .50 Beowulf® weapon system, you should also purchase a .50 Beowulf® extractor

Yeah, I read that there also, I did a lot of research before I posted my question, but have as yet not found any definite answers on how to tell them apart.

I think if you had a piece of 50 Beowulf brass and a piece of 6.5 Grendel brass it might be obivious which is correct. Your probably like me and don’t have a piece of Beowulf brass or a loaded cartridge. I think I’d call AA, they may have a number or symbol stamped in the extractor to identify the difference.

Install it and see if it extracts the case properly. If it doesn't well it's the wrong one.

Grendel extractor works just fine in my wulf, and vice versa. I've never had a failure to extract, or noticed any damaged cases.

Same here! I have also measured and compared both cases and found only very minor differences that are easily within SAMMI tolerances. (except that I can't seem to find SAAMI cartridge drawings for the 'wulf, yet anyway) Now I mainly just want to KNOW!

I have long ago de-fanged and polished my existing extractors, so not much use in comparing them, and I didn't see any difference then. Of course I wasn't looking for differences at that point in time.

I was not in the least bit worried about this until I saw that recommendation on AA's website. I am still not worried about it and I'm not going to lose one wink of sleep over it, but if there IS something to it I want my stuff to be right.

If I can catch a break during the day tomorrow I WILL be calling AA.

Well guys, I called A.Arms today. Customer service was reluctant to tell me much due to the cartridge was still "proprietary" and they didn't disclose that information due to possible copying. I pointed out that if I wanted to copy it I would just buy one, and how many were already out there. He said he would call me back, and did, in about five min. The Word from Above apparently, was that the newer extractors for the Beowulf were marked with a "B", and if one has older extractors, the Grendel's have sharper points, than the Beowulf.

I have some spare unmodified Grendel bolts, so I think I need to order a spare Beowulf extractor too.

That's about all I can do for now...
