Magpul Hunter American stock

Well, guess I'll find out what the final weight will be, saw you got the stock for the damn good price of $217 from Bud's gunshop so I checked. They have the ODG for $217 but the FDE for $230, well I did the price match request and put in the link for the ODG stock and they matched the $217 for the FDE, so I bought it.

Turns out Buds won’t ship to my UPS PO Box, and FFL won’t accept anything but a “firearm”, so, there’s going to be a delay on my report. Hope to have it in hand sometime next week...............

The mag conversion kit from Primal Rights arrived today, the swap out takes literally less than minute, tops!

Maybe next week then, my Magpul Hunter stock was delivered today and the primal rights conversion kit should be here tomorrow but my RAP just shipped today so I won't have the rifle until next week. At least I get to play with the stock until then.
Ordered a Athlon Ares 4.5-27 MOA today, now I got to figure out what scope mount for the Magpul Hunter stock to get proper cheek weld height, DNZ game reaper or rings and keep the picatinny rail that comes on the RAP.

Primal Rights mag conversion kit arrived today. Swap out took less than a minute per mag. Tops.

Ok a quick update.

Ran the Magpul stock today and in general, I like it. Plug and play, NO fitting issues, bolted right together.

It’s stiffer than the factory stock but it’s still plastic and you can still flex the fore end with aggressive bipod loading.

Adjustability is simple, add on spacers out to 15” LOP, comfortable grip angle. Feels good to me.......

Now the downside. Still has the feeding issue, at least with American Gunner and the OTM meplat. Still has a tendency to get hung up and jam against the feed ramp and/or the neck get jammed in the narrow opening on the feed ramp. The opening looks overly narrow to my unsophisticated eye, and the ramp itself is steep and roughly cut. So looks like it’s going to take some “gunsmithing” to solve the issue.

It could also be, that rounds with a Ballistic tip may feed better and not as prone to jamming as the OTM style but I was unable to test any of those today.

Have the same issue with multiple types of ammo and my RAP 243. It’s the feed ramp, it’s design, IMO it’s too steep, with an unnecessarily narrow “throat”, compounded by a rough finish.

It’s a pity because both guns shoot sub moa but the feeding issue takes all the enjoyment out of it.

You probably on to something there. The entire RAP has a horrible finish. I think that I could strike a match on the barrel if I tried. It's pretty obvious where some of the cost savings came from. I fixed a Ruger American in 22-250 the other day that couldn't hit a coyote past 100 yards. It had some obvious QC issues that should have never left the factory. The action wasn't even sitting in the V bedding blocks correctly. Doesn't give me a "warm fuzzy" about Ruger's budget line.

I’m gonna see what my gunsmith wants for a feed ramp “clean up” and polish. Haven’t been able to check the “jump” on the Grendel but the 243 is in excess of .185! And that’s being generous.

So, probably do the 243 first and shorten up the chamber while he has the barrel off. If that solves the feeding issue, will probably turn him loose on the Grendel.

Watching this thread. I have an RAP in 243, in an mdt chassis, so far it's been feeding smoothly no problems, 75 vmax, sierra 100 sbt's, 95 superformance, Winchester factory 80 psp, 80 nosler BT's... I haven't been trying to do anything fast or fancy but like I said it feeds smoothly so far. Using the AI plastic 308-short mag in it.
Like Harpoon shooting < 1" with all of these, as long as I'm steady. real nice.

I didn't mean to say that they are all inaccurate. Sorry if I was being confusing again. I find the Ruger Americans to be very accurate if they are assembled correctly.

This one that I fixed had gross oversights in its assembly though. There was plastic "flashing" from the stock molding sandwiched between the V blocks and the action. Also, one of the V blocks had a casting flaw. There was a half round protrusion in the middle of the mating surface about the size of a BB. It was actually making a dent in the bottom of the action. You could see from just looking at the barreled action in the stock that something was wrong. The barrel was pressing HARD into one side of the stock. I cleaned it all up, filed down the protrusion flush and made sure the stock wasn't contacting the barrel anywhere. After that, it was accurate like you would expect from a 22-250. It makes me question the QC going on at Ruger though. It seems that they don't spend any time finishing the metal surfaces or checking for simple issues.

Which color follower mags are you using with the 243? I’m going to try the brown follower Magpuls next and see if that helps any. FYI! the 80 grn SP’s give me the most problem with the 243. And of course, they’re the most accurate factory load also!

Got my Predator 6.5G in the hunter stock, waiting on some AI mags to come in (the magpul can't be converted) and will be evaluating the Athlon Ares scope I bought for it before I mount it. (reticle seems thinner and harder to see then my Argos or Helos scopes)

For your sake, I sincerely hope it works in your gun. I tried some Black & SST’s today thinking the polymer tips may help, wrong! It’s actually worse using them. The first round strips off and feeds no problem. The second one however, almost without fail, would porpoises and jam. Then, the remaining rounds are so far forward in the mag, because of the spacer, it’s almost impossible to back off the bolt just enough to release the pressure on the first round without backing off too much and picking up the second also. Now you’ve got a double feed to deal with. In a word it sucks!

Overall, I actually think the feeding issue is worse now than with stock setup. And that’s saying something.

Now for the good news, the Magpul stock works fanatastic with the RAP 243. I ran everything from 58 grn sp to 100 grn SP, without even a hint of a problem. S&B, PPU, Federal, Winchester, all perfect. It was flawlesss. It’s like it’s a brand new gun, amazing. Couldn’t be happier.

Ran it with the recommended Magpul AICS Brown follower mags first, perfect. Then tired the original gray followers, no problem. Then with the Ruger proprietary mag, perfect, again no issues. Night and day compared to the Grendel. :mad:

Which color follower mags are you using with the 243? I’m going to try the brown follower Magpuls next and see if that helps any. FYI! the 80 grn SP’s give me the most problem with the 243. And of course, they’re the most accurate factory load also!

I'm using ones with an OD green follower. Pmag 7.62AC 5 rounders.
