DIY hog hunt

Us Michigan boys don't get the chance to do much hog hunting, despite what the DNR is screaming from the rooftops.

I've never paid for a hunt and I'd much rather just take a few pointers, find a decent place and go for it myself.

So who has the most of the bastards with the cheapest out of state tag? grendel seems like an excellent pig gun

This maize and blue guy might add inexpensive or free access. Not that I am cheap, but a retired disabled Vet and like to get as much as I can out of a buck. I would like t get as many hunts s I can in b4 the grim reaper takes me. Since I can stay on military bases, hunts near them would be good. IF I had a place to store my weapon (s) since they would frown on me bringing one on base.

Hogs in Texas are legally pests. No tags, no limits, no regulations on how they must be taken (as far as I know...check Texas law instead of taking a guy on the interweb's word for it, of course.)

The issue is always finding a place to hunt them, though.

there are bases that allow hunting on-base, but really not ON BASE persay. Take Eglin AFB for example. Eglin is one of the biggest Air Force bases in the WORLD. Hell you look at a map, seems like it takes up half of the lower east coast lol.

With a permit you are legally allowed to hunt on the RESERVATION side of base. You take a gun onto the main part of base, and well, your asking for trouble. The reservation is, still technically Air Force owned property, and is marked as such. Only individuals with permits are legally allowed on the land, however there is no way to enforce this to the fullest due to the sheer size of the reservation.

Thee reservation is also devided into different sectors, ie, dog hunting, rifle hunting, primitive(bow), shotgun, etc. kinda cool actually

Need a hunting license to hunt in TX, not specific to species though.

for inspection by a game warden, unless exempt by age, program or a reciprocal agreement with

• let someone else hunt or fish with your license or tags."

The non resident 5 day license is $48

Only reason I know is I'm going in March.

Fort Stewart and Fort Benning, both in Georgia, have good numbers of hogs.

One of my friends that is with the AMU, Brandon Green, kills lots of hogs on Benning. He bow hunts only which is ironic since he is one of the top service rifle competitors in the US currently ranked #4. He has told me on several occasions that it isn't to difficult to find the hogs but they do move around so current information is needed to locate them.

you need to call the Ft. Hood ( Killeen ) operator or TPW and see about hog hunting on post.
there's a full time Game Warden presence on the Hood. Thet have big deer hunts every year as well.

Thanks for the tip. My buddy has some good spots lined up, but if they don't pan out we may have to check this out.
