Well, I suppose that anyone who buys a budget upper and chooses to see how it well it shoots by staring out of the gate with handloads, is already on the path to spending a lot of extra time and money.
Compound that by using a bullet that is known to be picky about what barrel it shoots well out of....Some say that when the Amax was replaced by ELD, the SST accuracy went down hill. This may be true, except that I acquired several boxes of older SST factory ammo when I first started back in mid 2017, and it has not shot well out of 6 riffles (4 Howa bolt action, 24" Lilja, 18" Bartlien). All 6 shoot Hornady ELD and American Eagle 120 OTM at .7MOA or better.
I just attend a different school of thought. I try 3 or 4 flavors of factory ammo and see what the barrel likes. If it's none of the above, then I have a serious problem.

I did shoot some factory SST’s through the barrel the first two trips. Was only able to get a couple groups on paper. They shot worse than my handloads. Not sure how loading up 20 handloads to shoot out of a new upper when you already have the components laying on the bench equates to having a lot of extra time and money.
Also the reason that I chose the SST is because it is what I currently had on hand as it shoots amazing out of my other grendel upper. The first three shot group at 100 yds was 0.55 MOA. That is a Shore Tactical 20” upper. He uses barrels turned from a small shop in Texas. I would highly reccomend them for the price and accuracy of my grndel, my .233, and many friends who have bought from him.
Lastly and again, I didnt buy this “budget upper”, it was a Christmas present and I’m not crying about the performance. Maybe I have the thread titled wrong. I was not expecting top tier accuracy out of BCA, although I was hopeful that I might get lucky. The purpose of this thread was to serve as a review for others in the market for a new barrel or upper. Just sharing my experience.
Yep thats the deal. Trying to make what I received work, if not I'll fool around with BCA's customer service and see if they will send me another barrel.
