Guy gel tests 6.5 Grendel in Hornady 123 ELD from a 12” barrel and turns out it gives devastating performance: “Alright, guys, this is hardly surprising. Everybody knows the 6.5 Grendel is an absolute Beast. . . . Fantastic choice for defense — very short neck, big, huge temporary stretch cavity, lots of fragmentation, lots of expansion — it just generally made a mess of things.”

Now I don't know whether to use Wolf 100 FMJ, Federal 90 TNT, or now this Hornady 123 ELD in my home defense 12" MONSTER barrel.

I seen that vid it is perrty good.
I been thinking of pulling the 100 grain fmj from the wolf and reworking it with it's powder and the 90tnt.
Would do it with the eld-m but it's a bit expensive for the amount I would be shooting that reworked steel case ammo.
But then again my 16 inch AA barrel just simply loves that wolf fmj ammo.

Impressive, Penetration was a lot more than I thought it would be.

I shot a gallon jug of water at 50 yards with my 12” 6.5 Grendel and the 100 grain FMJ zipped straight through. I couldn’t tell I hit the jug multiple times until I walked up to it. At close range with a 16” barrel the Wolf 100 grain FMJ does pretty well. Granted 50 yards is pretty far for most self defense encounters but I’m going to use the ELD-M. For stacking deep the Wolf FMJ might be ok but it’ll be the last resort for me. For distances beyond CQB the 100 grain FMJ just doesn’t produce enough accuracy or terminal performance IMHO especially out of 11.5-12.7” 6.5 Grendel.
For use in built up areas I think the 90 grain TNT might be worth consideration as velocity is shed pretty quick limiting down range hazard compared to the 123 grain ELD-M. The 100 grain A-Max/ELD-M might be worth gel testing if it were available in loaded ammo. The 100 grain A-Max/ELD-M might hit the sweet spot for penetration out of a 12” 6.5 Grendel.

I wonder if the Wolf ammo has time for the tip to deform and start to cavitate in a single gallon. I'd be interested to see what that looks like with a couple of gallons back to back.

I tested the 100 grain FMJ Wolf steel case in water jugs from around 50 yards. Bullet veered off intial path, nose bent over because of hollow tip under jacket. The base flattened a little but it didn’t fragment out of a 16” barrel at about 2500 FPS.
