I haven't been around much in the last year, so this may be old news and I missed it. I went onto ammoseek today and guess what I saw in the popular cartridge section. This seems to be a big step or maybe I'm over stating this?

I have noticed it in that box. Probably for the last 3 to 4 months I think. Never really dawned on me it's the most popular ammo section selection on ammoseek.

According to Underwood's website, the Grendel 110gn Controlled Chaos is 16th in their sales. That s ahead of their CC loads of Valkyrie and6.8.

Yep, it has been up there for quite some time. I first noticed it when I downloaded the app.

Off topic but I must ask. What caliber are you talking about?

Too my knowledge there is no sammi approved 6mm ar15 caliber much less a ar15 6mm caliber factory ammo is available for.

The flip side to being "popular" and ending up in the list, is severe lack of factory offerings or vendors that sell it/keep it in stock that cause the most "Anybody know where to find some Grendel Ammo? Nobody around here carries it"....and from the Gallery - "Try Ammoseek".

A small LGS on the main road to a large maintained public/BLM type range actually had some Federal Fusion (the eldest daughter forgot to pack ammo on her last trip with me). His comment was "Not a real popular cartridge, last of that, that I am going to carry"

I however agree with the consensus, Grendel is gaining traction, albeit late, and is here to stay.

Yeah I didn't literally mean 6mm flat, but the 6mm family of cartridges, of which there are only two SAAMI catalogued calibers that function in the AR15 that I'm aware of.

It is a popular search because the ammo is hard to find locally for a lot of people, like Sticks said. It is often sold out from dealers not because demand is so high, but because they order so little of it...if they have it at all. It only takes 2 or 3 customers to wipe out a shipment of 10 boxes. Or, if I am the customer, it takes only me.

Our local Academy is sold out much of the time. They will either have (at any given time) one or two slots for Grendel ammo. They will get 5 boxes each of ELD-M and/or SST at a time. It is crazy, but when I asked if they had more behind the counter, the guy told me what they get with a shipment. "Check back next week."

Where do you find sales rankings on their site?

My Academy only stocks the Wolf stuff, and not much of it. But to be honest, it's been a long time since i cared to buy in less than case or half/case quantities of anything. The only reason i still in go in the store is for clays and shotgun ammo. They're still cheaper on 20ga target ammo and steel shot than any online retailer i've come across. Almost all of my other ammo purchases come through Target Sports USA. Me and a couple of buddies split the cost of a prime account and put in a big order every quarter or so.
