Well long story short (sort of) the 18” barrel with mid length gas got pulled and sent back to manufacturer for inspection because I was shearing bolt lugs about every 500 rounds I think. Was informed that everything was to spec but they replaced my barrel anyways. Was able to swap it through the vendor / dealer for a 20” with rifle length gas. Cleaned her up and got her to the range and function checked and everything was good. Chrono’d some handloads and compared speeds to the 18” I had and my 20” was about the same speed avg (which is odd). But anyways... started to get scope zero set and the turret zero stop wouldn’t set and hold (second time). So went and exchanged scope for next power up (vortex pst gen2 3-15 swapped for the 5-25) and now it’s all back together and winter storm rolls in for the weekend. So it’s just some dry fire practice this weekend.
Interesting. Would an adjustable gas block not have helped? May be you were using one and I missed it?
Ive noted several incidents lately of shooters around here going back to longer barrels on their rifles. It seems like the 20 and 22 really get the grendel shining.

Oh its got an adjustable gas block. Rifle cycled fine and velocity with 123eld handloads was within 5-10fps of factory ammo. Theres a post I made on it a while back (broke another gas block...thoughts - I think thats what it is) and got a lot of help from the forum. I think it was a perfect storm of having a fast barrel, mid length gas, always running suppressed and something not right with the barrel/receiver/bolt lineup. Made a perfect storm for shearing lugs on bolt. Did it twice (or three times?? Cant remember) and was the exact same spot each time.
Sent barrel in, pulled gun apart, trued the upper receiver face, had barrel replaced with a 20 and rifle gas setup. All back together the speeds with the 20 match or are pretty close to matching what I was getting with the 18 and mid length gas setup I had. Did some test firing and checked for marks on bolt head and brass and nothing showing up. Hoping that the receiver faced being trued and getting the longer barrel with rifle length gas has solved all my problems. Its my favorite rifle and (I think) the most versatile caliber you can use in the AR15. Got some critters and predators to chase this winter with it and hopefully get into some more local precision matches with it too.
